More than 2 lakh youth benefit from NAPS in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow : The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), designed to boost apprenticeships nationwide, has been diligently implemented by the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh. From 2018 to June 30, 2024, over 2 lakh trainees have benefited from this initiative. The government has disbursed more than Rs 50 crore to support the scheme.

It’s noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this scheme to encourage apprenticeship training among the youth. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has prioritized its implementation in the state, leading to significant benefits for thousands of young people who are receiving both financial support and training.

According to the information available, from 2018 to June 30, 2024, a total of 2,18,033 trainees, including 1,85,123 men and 32,608 women, have benefited from the NAPS scheme in Uttar Pradesh.

Under this scheme, the youth got financial assistance in the form of a stipend along with training. For this, an amount of Rs 51.72 crore has been allocated in the state till June 30 under the scheme.

Additionally, between July 2023 and June 30, 2024, a total of Rs 46.85 crore has been distributed to trainees through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

As part of the scheme, the government organized the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) at 431 locations across the state from June 2022 to June 2024. The mela saw participation from 31,273 candidates and 1,873 establishments, both small and large, from across the country.

It is noteworthy that a total of 5,757 outstanding establishments are involved in this scheme, offering not only apprenticeship opportunities but also preparing skilled youth.

Trainees benefit from a stipend under the scheme, which provides financial support while they gain practical experience and skills. This hands-on training significantly enhances their career prospects. Upon completing their apprenticeship, trainees are better positioned for employment opportunities.

Furthermore, the government supports employers by covering 25% of the trainees’ stipend, up to a maximum of Rs 1,500 per month. Additionally, the government subsidizes a portion of the basic training costs for untrained trainees.

Through this scheme, employers gain access to a trained and skilled workforce, enhancing their productivity and generating new employment opportunities.
