International Boxer Mary Kom Meets Deputy CM Arun Saw; Discusses Sports Development in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Dec 2025 – Six-time Boxing World Champion and Olympic medalist, the renowned boxer M.C. Mary Kom, paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Sports & Youth Welfare, Arun Saw. The meeting was held at his official residence in New Raipur, where Mr. Saw briefed her on the state’s efforts to develop sports infrastructure and nurture sporting talent.

Mary Kom had come to Chhattisgarh to attend the divisional-level inauguration of the Bastar Olympic-2025, held in Jagdalpur. On December 11, she participated in the event and encouraged the young athletes.

Deputy CM Arun Saw lauded Mary Kom’s long sporting journey, highlighting how she overcame challenges and hardships with talent, hard work, and determination to bring international glory to India at World Championships and the Olympics. He described her as a source of national pride and inspiration and expressed confidence that her presence would motivate Bastar’s athletes to strive harder. He also thanked her for visiting Chhattisgarh to participate in the Bastar Olympic.

Mary Kom shared her experiences from international and national competitions and assured Deputy CM Arun Saw that she would support the development of sports among the youth of Chhattisgarh in every possible way. She praised the organization of the Bastar Olympic, noting that seeing youth from remote villages brought back memories of her own early days. She said the event provides an excellent platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and commended the state government for its efforts to promote sports and support athletes. She expressed confidence that players from the region would achieve international medals in the future and thanked the government for inviting her to participate in the Bastar Olympic.
