Nagpur Development Reviewed Under CM Devendra Fadnavis; Maharashtra Government to Guarantee HUDCO Loan for New Nagpur and Ring Road Projects

Nagpur: Approval granted for nine new electricity substations in New Nagpur

Nagpur, Dec 2025 : The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, chaired a high-level meeting today to review various development projects in Nagpur. Emphasizing the need for prioritizing infrastructure to keep pace with the city’s rapid expansion, he directed the construction of new electricity substations to meet growing power demands in key areas.

For the Khamla area, where projects like London Street are underway, Fadnavis instructed the municipal corporation to allocate space for a 220 kV electricity substation. Similarly, in the Butibori industrial zone, the state will provide land for a 400 kV substation through MIDC to support rising electricity requirements for the expanding industrial settlements.

The meeting, held at the Cabinet Hall in the Vidhan Bhavan, included Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister and Guardian Minister of Amravati Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLAs Krishna Khopde and Pravin Datke, Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, and senior officials from Urban Development, Finance, Energy, Home, and Planning departments, as well as the Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary and Nagpur Improvement Trust Chairman Sanjay Meena.

New substations and upgrades:

  • This year, new substations were commissioned in Jattardodi and Pachgaon, while capacities at Khapri and Umred were upgraded.
  • Work is ongoing for substations in Landra Park, MIHAN, Yenwa, and Butibori (Awada), as reported by Energy Department’s Additional Chief Secretary Abha Shukla.
  • Projects in Kadwali and Bazargaon are progressing, and plans are in place for substations in Kanhan and Selu.
  • Seven more substations received approval for Hingna, Mahalgaon, MIDC Umred, Dabha, Pavangaon, Katol, and Neri.

Loan guarantee for New Nagpur and Ring Road projects:

To support rapid urban expansion due to industrial projects and employment opportunities, the Maharashtra government will guarantee HUDCO loans of ₹7,800 crore for New Nagpur and the New Ring Road. This includes ₹3,000 crore for New Nagpur and ₹4,800 crore for the Ring Road, as presented by Nagpur Improvement Trust Chairman Sanjay Meena.

Land allocation for Prime Minister Housing Scheme:

To ensure housing for low-income groups under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, approximately 11,913.19 sq. m. at Jaytala and 4,625 sq. m. at Hudkeshwar will be transferred to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation at nominal rates for housing projects.

Additional administrative directives:

  • Service rules in the municipal corporation will be revised to prioritize employee seniority.
  • Decisions were taken to grant heirs of sanitation workers full benefits, based on committee recommendations.
  • Police department matters, including the construction of new police stations and staffing requirements, were discussed, and the Chief Minister instructed detailed proposals with proper coordination between the Police Headquarters and administration.

This comprehensive review underscores the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development, power expansion, housing, and law enforcement to accommodate Nagpur’s rapid urban growth.
