“Shining Rajasthan with Solar Energy: Two Years of New Identity and Progress”

December 2025, Jaipur : On the occasion of the second anniversary of the current state government, Rajasthan has emerged as a major contributor to India’s solar and renewable energy sector. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the past two years have seen policy measures to boost renewable energy, remove investment hurdles, and accelerate solar projects through streamlined land allocation processes. As a result, projects are being completed on time, and Rajasthan is increasingly shining as a hub of solar energy.

Significant Share in Solar and Renewable Energy

The state’s current renewable energy capacity has reached 41,189 MW, with solar energy contributing 35,337 MW. Rajasthan accounts for 27.2% of India’s total solar energy capacity and 16.43% of total renewable energy. In the past two years, the state added 17,820 MW of renewable energy capacity, including 17,326 MW from solar projects. Additionally, 45 GW of renewable energy projects are under development, further strengthening Rajasthan’s position as a national solar hub.

Leadership in Decentralized Solar Energy

Rajasthan’s dominance in solar energy is also due to effective implementation of schemes like PM-KUSUM and PM-SuryaGhar, which promote decentralized solar energy. Under Components A and C of PM-KUSUM, 1,047 grid-connected small solar projects totaling 2,345 MW have been installed in village households, placing Rajasthan first in the country. Component B has seen the installation of 51,927 off-grid solar pumps (out of a target of 115,000), helping farmers transition from diesel pumps to affordable, pollution-free solar energy. Grid-connected plants now provide daytime electricity to over 154,000 farmers.

Similarly, under the PM-SuryaGhar scheme, 109,209 rooftop solar plants with a total capacity of 441 MW have been installed in under two years, placing Rajasthan fifth nationwide in rooftop solar installations.

Pugal: Developing India’s Largest Solar Park

In line with the Clean Energy Policy-2024, the state aims to develop 115 GW of renewable energy and 10 GW of energy storage projects by 2030. In Pugal, Bikaner, a 2,450 MW solar park with 5,000 MWh battery storage is under development, making it the largest in the world. Additionally, four battery storage projects with a combined capacity of 6,000 MWh are being established with investments of ₹6,000 crore, achieving the lowest tariffs in the country. These projects, expected to be operational by November 2027, will meet peak-hour demand and reduce expensive power purchases, advancing energy self-reliance.

Awards and Recognition

Rajasthan received first and second prizes at the RE-Invest Summit 2024, Gujarat, for its contribution to solar and renewable energy capacity. Recently, at the Windergy India 2025 conference in Chennai, the state received the Excellence in Wind & Hybrid Policy award, underscoring its role as a pillar of India’s green energy transition.

Key Initiatives and Decisions

  • Integrated Clean Energy Policy-2024, promoting renewable energy, biofuels, energy storage, and green hydrogen.
  • Incentives and facilities for renewable energy projects under RIPS-2024.
  • Permission for virtual and group net metering, enabling wider access to solar energy.
  • Allocation of 1.32 lakh hectares of land for solar parks and renewable projects.
  • Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit: ₹28 lakh crore investment in the energy sector.
  • MoUs with central PSUs for 43,238 MW of renewable and conventional energy projects.

Rajasthan’s progressive policies have positioned the state as a leader in India’s energy transition, creating a solar-powered, sustainable future.
