Chief Minister Unveils Equestrian Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Pune, December 2025 : The work on the Katraj–Kondhwa road will be completed at the earliest, and the Kondhwa area will be connected to other parts of the city through the metro. Approval has been granted for the Shivajinagar–Yewalewadi metro corridor, the Swargate–Katraj metro line will be extended up to Kondhwa, and the area will also be connected through the proposed metro line linking to the Purandar airport, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, erected at Kondhwa Budruk by Shri Bhairavnath Gramvikas Mandal. On the occasion, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil, MLAs Yogesh Tilekar, Bhimrao Tapkir, Sunil Kamble, Chetan Tupe, office-bearers of the mandal, and others were present.
Stating that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj taught Maharashtra the value of self-respect, Mr. Fadnavis said he was a visionary leader and ruler who established a just and equitable governance system. His administration imposed the strictest punishments on those who committed injustice or atrocities against women. He said the land of Kondhwa has been sanctified by the footsteps of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and it was a matter of great joy that a grand statue of the great king was being unveiled on this sacred soil. The statue has enhanced the pride and glory not only of the Kondhwa Budruk area but of the entire state of Maharashtra, he added.
Referring to history, the Chief Minister said that at a time when foreign powers such as the Mughal, Nizamshahi and Adilshahi were attacking the Marathi land and Hindustan, many kings and princely states had accepted subjugation as vassals of the Mughals. In such circumstances, inspired by the blessings of Jijau Mata, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took a pledge to establish Hindavi Swarajya. By uniting people from all eighteen communities and instilling in them a spirit of victory, he founded Hindavi Swarajya. Later, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj fought against the Mughals to protect the Swarajya. Subsequently, Tarabai continued the struggle, and the Marathas even captured the throne of Delhi. It was the Marathas who hoisted their flag beyond Attock. He further said that the blazing history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who gave Maharashtra its self-respect and pride, has been included in the CBSE curriculum across 21 pages.
MLA Yogesh Tilekar said that the unveiling of the equestrian statue had taken place on land sanctified by the footsteps of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He added that infrastructure development of the Kondhwa area is being carried out through the state government.
