CM Urges Rapid Expansion of Solar Energy Under Kutir Jyoti Scheme; Target of Installing Solar Systems in 10 Lakh Households
Patna, May 2026: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday chaired a review meeting of the Energy Department at Sankalp, 1 Anne Marg, Patna, and issued key directions to accelerate solar energy initiatives under the Kutir Jyoti Scheme.
He directed officials to speed up the installation of solar power systems in the premises of 10 lakh Kutir Jyoti beneficiaries and ensure effective implementation of rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. He emphasized that more and more households should be covered under these schemes to promote clean and green energy.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to increasing the adoption of renewable energy and reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources. He instructed that a comprehensive plan be implemented to promote green and clean energy across all sectors.
He also directed that all installed solar panels must be properly maintained and that rural livelihood groups should be encouraged to install solar systems in their households. Awareness campaigns should be intensified to educate people about the functioning and benefits of solar energy so that rural communities develop a stronger inclination towards adopting it.
Further, he instructed officials to expand solarisation of agricultural feeders so that maximum agricultural feeders are included in the solar energy network, ensuring greater use of solar power in farming activities.
The Chief Minister said that under the Mukhyamantri Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayata Yojana, eligible domestic consumers are already receiving up to 125 units of free electricity per month. To further strengthen energy self-reliance, he urged citizens to adopt rooftop solar systems, enabling them to become self-sufficient in electricity generation and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
He stressed that increasing electricity generation capacity and promoting renewable energy are key government priorities. The overall objective, he said, is to enhance green energy adoption and ensure sustainable development through integrated planning.
During the meeting, Energy Department Secretary Ajay Yadav presented a detailed update on departmental schemes, ongoing projects, benefits being provided to consumers, progress of the PM Surya Ghar scheme, solarisation plans for BPL consumers, additional livelihood promotion schemes, and future energy initiatives.
The Chief Minister reiterated that rapid progress must be made in implementing the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana so that maximum households can benefit. He also emphasized the need to motivate beneficiaries to install solar panels on their homes.
He further directed that under the Kutir Jyoti Scheme, solar systems must be installed in the premises of 10 lakh beneficiaries on priority, and agricultural feeder solarisation should be expanded to improve efficiency and promote sustainable energy use in farming.
The meeting was attended by Energy Minister Shailesh Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, Special Officer to CM Dr. Gopal Singh, Energy Secretary Ajay Yadav, Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Managing Director of Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited Rahul Kumar, along with several senior officials.
