Jaismine Leads India’s Six-Medal Boxing Surge at Commonwealth Games

Glasgow, July 2026 : India’s boxing contingent produced a remarkable day of success at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Wednesday, with Jaismine Lamboria leading the charge as she defeated England’s Elise Glynn in the women’s 57kg quarterfinals to secure a place in the semifinals and guarantee another medal for the country.

The 24-year-old boxer from Bhiwani, Haryana, prevailed through a 4-1 split decision in a closely contested quarterfinal. Fighting from the Blue corner, Jaismine received winning scores of 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27 from four judges, while the fifth judge awarded the bout to Glynn 29-28.

Jaismine’s victory extended India’s perfect run in the boxing quarterfinals on Wednesday to six wins from six bouts. She joined Narender (90kg), Ankush (80kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (70kg) and Sakshi (51kg) in assuring India of medals at the Glasgow Games.

The achievement adds another major chapter to Jaismine’s growing international career. She had won a bronze medal in the Lightweight category at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games four years ago. Since then, she has established herself as one of India’s leading boxers, winning gold at the 2025 World Championships in Liverpool and two World Boxing Cup gold medals in the Featherweight category at Astana and New Delhi in 2025. She had also claimed bronze at the 2021 Asian Championships in Dubai.

Earlier on Wednesday, Narender secured India’s first boxing medal of the day after defeating Samoa’s Michael Seko by a hard-fought 3-2 split decision in the men’s 90kg quarterfinals. The bout was closely fought, but Narender held his composure to edge his opponent and advance to the last-four stage.

Ankush was equally impressive in the men’s 80kg quarterfinals, producing a dominant display of ring control, sharp combinations and effective counter-attacking. His opponent, Micock, struggled to make an impact as the Indian boxer controlled the contest from start to finish.

The judges unanimously favoured Ankush, with scorecards reading 30-26, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27. His victory secured a place in the semifinals and guaranteed him at least a bronze medal, with both losing semifinalists receiving bronze under the Commonwealth Games boxing format.

Sakshi also advanced to the semifinals after recording a commanding 5-0 unanimous victory over Northern Ireland’s Caitlin Fryers in the women’s quarterfinals. The Indian boxer remained in control throughout the bout, winning all three rounds on every judge’s scorecard.

Four judges scored the contest 29-27 in Sakshi’s favour, while another gave her a 29-25 verdict. A point deduction against Fryers further strengthened Sakshi’s advantage as she comfortably secured her place in the medal rounds.

In the women’s 70kg category, Arundhati Chaudhary defeated New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson by a 3-1 split decision. Arundhati maintained her composure and tactical discipline during the three-round contest.

Three judges awarded all three rounds to the Indian, with identical 30-26 scorecards. Another judge favoured Henderson 29-27, while the fifth scored the contest 28-28. However, a one-point deduction against the New Zealand boxer ultimately tilted the result in Arundhati’s favour and sent her into the semifinals.

Sachin Siwach completed another successful Indian campaign in the quarterfinals with a composed and clinical 5-0 unanimous victory. His performance secured his passage into the semifinals and assured India of another boxing medal.

The success on Wednesday followed another productive day for India’s boxing contingent on Tuesday, when three more Indian pugilists secured places in the semifinals.

Mandengbam Jadumani Singh booked his place in the last four of the men’s 55kg category after defeating Mwale Mwengo by a unanimous 5-0 decision. The boxer from Manipur delivered a technically disciplined performance throughout the contest and became the third Indian boxer to reach the semifinals on Tuesday.

Jadumani’s victory guaranteed him at least a bronze medal under the Commonwealth Games rules. He joined Preeti and Priya, who had also advanced to their respective semifinals earlier in the day.

In the women’s 60kg category, Priya defeated Scotland’s Niamh Mitchell 4-1 in the quarterfinals. Competing in front of a partisan home crowd, Priya showed remarkable resilience after losing the opening round on four of the five judges’ scorecards.

She responded strongly in the second and third rounds, using sharp combinations, effective counter-attacks and superior ring control to turn the contest around. Four judges scored the bout 28-27 in Priya’s favour, while the fifth awarded her a 29-26 victory, completing a memorable comeback.

Meanwhile, Preeti secured a bronze medal after storming into the women’s 54kg semifinals with a comprehensive unanimous victory over Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde.

Preeti controlled the contest from the opening bell, using her speed, accuracy and movement to keep Clyde under constant pressure. She won all three rounds on the scorecards of all five judges, with the final tallies reading 30-25, 30-25, 30-26, 30-26 and 30-27.

Three knockdowns further demonstrated Preeti’s dominance and underlined the extent of her control throughout the bout.

With six Indian boxers securing medals on Wednesday and three more having already reached the semifinals on Tuesday, India’s boxing campaign has emerged as one of the strongest medal-winning disciplines at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The string of victories reflects the depth and quality of India’s boxing programme, with experienced campaigners and emerging talents alike delivering under pressure. For Jaismine in particular, the latest semifinal berth provides another opportunity to improve on her Birmingham bronze and challenge for a higher medal at the Commonwealth Games.
