KTR Blames Revanth Reddy for Metro Phase II Delay, Alleges Failure to Secure Centre’s Approval
Hyderabad, June 2026 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) on Monday launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of failing to secure approval for Hyderabad Metro Phase II and alleging that the delay reflected the inefficiency of the Congress government in the state.
Addressing the issue in a statement, KTR said the Chief Minister was attempting to divert public attention through what he termed “desperate antics and false narratives” instead of taking responsibility for the delay in obtaining central clearance for the project.
The BRS leader questioned why the Telangana government had failed to secure approval for Hyderabad Metro Phase II when metro projects in cities such as Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam and several urban centres in Uttar Pradesh had received support from the Centre.
KTR, as the former minister is popularly known, criticised Revanth Reddy for his repeated visits to New Delhi, claiming that despite making 71 trips to the national capital, the Chief Minister had failed to convince the BJP-led central government to sanction the project.
“His inability to secure approval for Metro Phase II despite numerous visits to Delhi is a glaring example of administrative inefficiency,” KTR alleged.
He further claimed that Revanth Reddy lacked the political will to directly question the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the delay in approving the metro expansion proposal.
The BRS leader alleged that the Chief Minister had entered into “secret understandings” with the BJP and was therefore unwilling to criticise the Union government. According to KTR, instead of confronting the Centre, Revanth Reddy was targeting the opposition BRS to divert attention from his own failures.
KTR also referred to the “Vote for Note” case involving Revanth Reddy, alleging that concerns related to the case had influenced the Chief Minister’s political approach toward the BJP. He claimed that this was one of the reasons behind what he described as a lack of assertiveness in dealing with the Centre.
Drawing comparisons with the previous BRS government led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), KTR asserted that major projects and financial approvals had moved swiftly under the earlier administration.
“Under KCR’s leadership, approvals and loans were secured quickly. Today, under this administration, progress has come to a standstill,” he said.
KTR further remarked that Revanth Reddy himself had once stated that people in Delhi looked at him “like a slipper thief,” claiming that such comments reflected the Chief Minister’s diminishing credibility.
He also dismissed allegations that the BRS was responsible for obstructing central funds to Telangana, arguing that such claims indirectly suggested that KCR wielded more influence than the Prime Minister.
The BRS leader demanded that Revanth Reddy apologise to the people of Hyderabad for failing to secure Metro Phase II and for allegedly jeopardising the future of Phase I.
Warning of political consequences, KTR said Hyderabad, which he described as a “Mini India” due to its cosmopolitan character, would not forgive what he termed the government’s mishandling of the Metro issue.
The remarks come amid an intensifying political battle between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS over infrastructure development and the future expansion of Hyderabad’s metro rail network.
