State GST Enforcement Busts Major Tax Evasion via Air Cargo, Seizes Crores Worth of Gold-Diamond Jewelry

Jaipur, January 2026: The State GST Enforcement Branch conducted a major operation at Jaipur Airport, seizing a large quantity of jewelry and precious stones, causing a stir among several prominent jewelers in Jaipur. Under the directions of Chief Commissioner of the Department Mr. Kumar Pal Gautam, State GST Enforcement Branch-I carried out the operation on January 6, uncovering a large-scale GST evasion involving crores of rupees through air cargo.

The enforcement team had received confidential information regarding the illegal transport and trade of bullion, natural diamonds, gold, and diamond jewelry from Kolkata to Jaipur without valid documentation. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the department team conducted several days of continuous surveillance to thoroughly investigate the interstate network and devised a precise operational strategy.

Under the planned strategy, as soon as parcels containing gold and diamond jewelry were dispatched via courier from the domestic airport, the enforcement team immediately intercepted them, seizing the goods for lack of proper documentation. The seized jewelry will be valued at market rates, and the penalty amount will be recovered accordingly.

It is noteworthy that in recent times, following the intent of Chief Minister Mr. Bhajanlal Sharma, the department has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against tax evasion, carrying out continuous operations that have uncovered significant amounts of tax fraud.
