Rajya Sabha MP Pu K. Vanlalvena Inspects Ongoing Road Construction and Proposed Bridges at Saisihchhuah and Tuipui D
January 2026: Rajya Sabha MP Pu K. Vanlalvena on Friday visited and inspected the ongoing construction of the Thingsai–Bualpui–Saisihchhuah–Pangkhua–Sangau (TBSPS) road and the proposed new bridge over the Tuipui D river.
The MP visited the project sites along the Indo–Myanmar border road being constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) between Bualpui H in Hnahthial district and Pangkhua in Lawngtlai district. He noted that construction work, which had remained suspended between 2021 and 2023 due to compensation-related issues, has now resumed. Pu K. Vanlalvena recalled that he had repeatedly taken up the matter with Central Government authorities, urging them to ensure early resumption of the work.
He further stated that the Ministry of DONER had sanctioned Rs 66 crore in 2021 for the construction of the Pangkhua–Saisihchhuah stretch of the Myanmar border road. However, as BRO could not commence work at the time, the sanctioned amount was later withdrawn. He expressed satisfaction that the Ministry of Defence has now facilitated the resumption of road construction from Bualpui H in Hnahthial district towards the end of 2024.
During the visit, the Rajya Sabha MP inspected the ongoing border road construction from Bualpui H up to the confluence of the Tiau and Chhimtuipui rivers. He also jointly reviewed the proposed sites for the construction of a bridge over the Chhimtuipui river, which will connect Pangkhua and Bualpui H, along with BRO Executive Engineers.
He also inspected the proposed site for a heavy motor vehicle bridge over the Tuipui D river near Darzo in the Hnahthial area, in the presence of the General Manager of ABCI Infrastructure. Pu K. Vanlalvena stated that he has personally met the Director General of BRO in Delhi on three occasions regarding the construction of a heavy vehicle bridge over Tuipui D.
According to BRO Executive Engineers and the ABCI Infrastructure General Manager, two bridges are planned over the Chhimtuipui river, with lengths of 150 metres and 255 metres respectively. These projects are estimated to cost Rs 25 crore and Rs 75 crore, and are targeted for completion by September 2027.
BRO officials also informed the MP that construction of the road from Pangkhua towards Saisihchhuah will commence once compensation payments are fully settled. They added that compensation payments in Pangkhua are expected to be completed within the next two months.
Pu K. Vanlalvena also raised concern over the remaining two-kilometre stretch of non-blacktopped border road between Thingsai and Bualpui H. He stressed the need for immediate boulder pitching before the onset of the monsoon this year. BRO officials assured him that the work would be carried out in coordination with local leaders.
BRO Executive Engineer Vikash Kumar Singh, BRO Officer-in-Charge Shambu K.R. Tarun, ABCI Infrastructure General Manager Prafulla Borgohain, village councils of Thingsai and Bualpui H, NGOs, and the Hnahthial Village Council were present during the inspection.
