Hyderabad, Aug 3: Telangana job aspirants staged a flash protest at Indira Park crossroads in Hyderabad on Monday, demanding that the state government issue recruitment notifications for 20,000 police vacancies. The protesters, including candidates preparing for police constable and sub-inspector posts, alleged that the government had failed to fulfil its earlier commitment by notifying only around 7,000 vacancies. The demonstration was organised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of unemployed youth.
Carrying placards and raising slogans, the protesters briefly blocked traffic by sitting on the road and demanded immediate action from the Telangana government on the issue of government recruitment. According to the protesters, nearly 10 lakh job aspirants across Telangana have been waiting for several years for recruitment to the promised 20,000 police posts. They expressed disappointment over the latest recruitment drive, arguing that the number of vacancies announced falls significantly short of the requirement.
The aspirants also called for recruitment notifications for vacancies in other government departments. Their demands include a mega DSC recruitment drive and notifications for Group I, Group II, Group III and Group IV government posts. Aspirants Demand Increase in Police Recruitment Age Limit A major demand raised during the Hyderabad protest was an increase in the upper age limit for police recruitment.
The protesters argued that prolonged delays in issuing recruitment notifications have resulted in thousands of aspirants crossing the prescribed age limit and becoming ineligible to apply for police jobs. The protesters also reminded Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of his earlier promise to fill 20,000 vacancies in the police department.
Warning of further protests, the unemployed youth said they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not addressed. They threatened to organise larger demonstrations in front of the Telangana Secretariat and at other locations. The protesters also alleged that the state government was paying attention to student protests elsewhere while failing to adequately address the employment concerns of unemployed youth in Telangana.
Telangana Unemployed Youth Intensify Employment Campaign The latest protest is part of a series of demonstrations by unemployed youth in Telangana. Last week, unemployed youth announced the formation of the Telangana Endrin Party (TEP) to highlight employment-related issues. Under the slogan “Job is our right, justice is our goal,” the group has been demanding a job calendar and implementation of the promise to provide two lakh jobs made during the 2023 Assembly elections.
7,437 Telangana Government Jobs Notified Meanwhile, the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board issued four notifications on July 29 for direct recruitment to 7,437 posts. The notified vacancies cover the Police, Special Protection Force, Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence, and Prisons and Correctional Services departments. The latest recruitment notification has failed to satisfy the protesting aspirants, who are demanding that the government expand recruitment to cover the 20,000 police vacancies they say were promised.
The continuing protests indicate that government employment remains a major concern among Telangana's youth, with job aspirants pressing the state government for a larger recruitment drive, a clear job calendar and relaxation of the upper age limit.
