Another ‘Nirbhaya Case’ In Delhi, Minor Girl Gang-Raped In Moving Bus: Sanjay Singh

NEW DELHI, Aug 2026 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) tore into the Modi government at the Centre and the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi after a 15-year-old student from Mainpuri was gang-raped in a moving bus on Delhi’s roads. Senior AAP leader and MP Sanjay Singh called it another ‘Nirbhaya case’ and said law and order in the national capital had completely collapsed under Modi rule. AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said Delhi was becoming the child rape capital under a woman Chief Minister, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s lax, insensitive and indifferent approach to rape cases leaving children unsafe.

Taking to X, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated: “Once again, a Nirbhaya-like incident has taken place in the national capital. A student from Mainpuri was allegedly gang-raped inside a bus on the streets of Delhi. Under the Modi government, law and order in the national capital has completely collapsed.”

Meanwhile, AAP Delhi Unit Chief Saurabh Bharadwaj said,“On Sunday, cases of rape involving two young children in Delhi had come to light. A three-year-old girl had been sexually harassed by her school van driver for several days. The second case involved a 15-year-old girl who had left home after being somewhat upset. She got a lift in a bus, where the driver, conductor or some other people working on the same bus raped her while it was moving. In addition, Sunday’s news reported that a three-year-old boy who had been sent to a playschool was sexually assaulted there.”

Saurabh Bharadwaj further said that Delhi had, in a way, become the capital of child rape and that he held Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta largely responsible for this because she was an insensitive and poor-quality woman. “A few months ago, a girl was raped inside a private school in Janakpuri, and the rape was committed by the school’s 57-year-old head clerk, but the Chief Minister remained completely silent about it,” he added.

“At the same time, she continued attending programmes there, and her ministers also continued visiting the school. The school was also accused of making people linked to a senior BJP leader trustees through the backdoor in connection with a Rs 500 crore land matter. Since we raised this issue, Rekha Gupta’s own Revenue Department has lost the file of the SS Mota Singh School,”he added.

Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned whether a file could go missing from the DM’s office. He asked whether Rekha Gupta had registered an FIR against the DM or whether an FIR had been registered against anyone else. “The Delhi High Court has issued orders directing them to produce the file of the SS Mota Singh School in Janakpuri. Despite this, Rekha Gupta’s own Revenue Department has still not produced the file. He said the meaning was clear,” he stated.

The AAP Delhi Unit Chief continued,“Even after the Education Department’s own investigation found that the school’s management had violated the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, nothing happened. The management knew that the school’s cameras had been non-functional for months, yet they did not get them repaired.”

He said that no teacher at the school had been given POCSO training, no teacher had been appointed for child welfare, and there was neither a principal nor a vice-principal appointed. “The entire school was being run without the government’s permission. Despite this, Rekha Gupta and her minister Ashish Sood did not register an FIR against the school management. They have the inquiry report, yet no case was registered,” he said.

He said this was because these people were afraid, hesitant or had some vested interests that prevented them from taking action against those who stand up for rapists. “I want to ask Rekha Gupta and Ashish Sood what action they have taken against SS Mota Singh School so far. The truth is that they have taken no action,” he emphasised.

Saurabh Bharadwaj noted that even when the rapists found inside the school were granted bail within five days in violation of the law, these people remained silent. “When the other teacher involved was granted bail, they remained silent then too. The Aam Aadmi Party arranged senior advocates for them, and I thank those senior advocates who fought their case free of charge all the way to the High Court and Supreme Court. It was only then that we managed to send both accused back to jail. But Chief Minister Rekha Gupta did not have enough time to visit the family,” he said.

“Ashish Sood himself is the MLA from the same Janakpuri constituency, but he too did not have time to meet the girl’s family. That is why I say that as Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta is completely an insensitive and poor-quality Chief Minister, and because of the lax approach of her government, children in Delhi are completely unsafe today,”he further noted.

Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly Atishi said, “A horrifying incident of a 16-year-old minor girl being gang-raped on a bus travelling from Noida to Delhi had come to light. The BJP is in power in both Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, and the police in both states are also under the BJP. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, the Union Home Ministry and the Prime Minister are also from the BJP. Now which engine of power is left with the BJP?”

Atishi said that the police’s approach is such that if someone posts a video or comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, they are tracked down even from hell. “On the other hand, heinous crimes such as rape and gang rape of daughters continue to take place across the country, and the BJP government, which has been in power at the Centre for so many years, has completely failed to stop them,” she added.

The senior AAP leader further said that the crime continued to take place on a moving bus on such a sensitive route, and questioned,“What were the police of both states doing? Today, the fear of the khaki has completely disappeared from the minds of criminals. Criminals know very well that the police will not catch them, and even if they are caught, the investigation will be so weak that they will easily get away due to lack of evidence.”

Atishi said, “Has the job of BJP leaders been reduced to merely intimidating and threatening 15-year-old girls, or is it also their responsibility to keep the daughters of this country safe? The BJP sought votes from the people of Delhi in the name of forming a double- and triple-engine government and claimed that it would resolve their problems, but today Delhi has reached the brink of collapse.”

Atishi asserted that today no one feels safe in any corner of the national capital, and stated,“Children, women and the elderly are all living under a shadow of fear. There is no drinking water in the city, the power crisis has deepened and the roads are completely broken. The people today feel cheated after electing the BJP government and are regretting their decision.”
