Chief Minister expresses resolve to accelerate Pune’s transportation infrastructure
Pune, Sept 2026 : The modern and sustainable headquarters being developed by Bajaj Finserv in Pune will give a new direction to the city’s development, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said. He also expressed the government’s determination to rapidly develop the necessary infrastructure to transform Pune into a modern city with a fast and efficient mobility system.
Fadnavis was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed Bajaj Finserv headquarters. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Bajaj Finserv Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Bajaj, Bajaj Finserv CSR Chairperson Shefali Bajaj, Bajaj Finance Vice Chairman and Managing Director Rajiv Jain, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, senior officials and representatives of the Bajaj Group were present.
The Chief Minister said Pune and Mumbai have emerged as the country’s leading fintech ecosystem hubs. During the first quarter, Mumbai overtook Bengaluru, accounting for 61 per cent of total fintech investments. The fintech startup ecosystem has also witnessed significant growth, with a 59 per cent increase and investments worth $900 million. He said there was a need to expand this ecosystem to Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur as well. He expressed hope that Bajaj Finserv’s services would soon also be available in Nagpur.
Pune is a rapidly growing city and infrastructure is being developed to match its growth, Fadnavis said. Along with outer and inner ring roads, an extensive network of underground routes will also be created. Over the next three to four years, efforts will be made to establish Pune as a city known for fast and efficient transportation. The government also aims to strengthen Pune’s identity as a modern city, in which Bajaj Finserv’s modern campus will play an important role, he said.
Fadnavis said the Bajaj Finserv Pune campus and its facilities would become an important and sustainable infrastructure asset for the country. Around 40,000 employees are expected to work at the campus. He assured that the road connecting the campus and an additional bridge would be constructed before the building work is completed. The Bajaj Group has also expressed its intention to establish an arts and cultural centre in Pune, and such a centre will be developed with the cooperation of the municipal corporation and other stakeholders, he said.
Maharashtra is ahead in the financial services and banking sectors, and a special policy has been formulated to take the state further forward, the Chief Minister said. Efforts are underway to ensure that Maharashtra retains its leadership in the domestic insurance and digital lending markets. He also urged Bajaj Finserv to collaborate with the state government to further strengthen Maharashtra’s leadership in the fintech sector.
Fadnavis said Bajaj Finserv is regarded as an important institution in the fintech sector for bringing modernisation through the use of financial technology. He also lauded the Bajaj Group’s contribution to India’s industrial development and nation-building since its inception, as well as its participation in various social initiatives undertaken by the government.
Bajaj Finserv Campus Will Strengthen Pune’s Knowledge-Based Economy: Deputy CM Sunetra Ajit Pawar
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar said the new Bajaj Finserv campus would showcase a strong combination of the Bajaj Group’s century-old legacy and its vision for modern technology. The campus would further strengthen Pune’s knowledge-based economy, she said.
Bajaj Finserv has signed a memorandum of understanding worth Rs 6,000 crore with the Maharashtra government, which will provide a boost to investment and the financial services sector in the state. The Bajaj Group’s efforts to give a new direction to financial services through artificial intelligence, data and digital technologies are noteworthy, Pawar said.
She said new sectors such as artificial intelligence, fintech, insurtech, data analytics and digital financial services were creating significant employment and skill-development opportunities for Pune’s youth. The modern campus would provide greater opportunities for new skills, ideas and the younger generation.
Pawar also highlighted the Bajaj Group’s significant contribution to the industrial development of areas such as Akurdi, Waluj and Chakan.
Bajaj Finserv Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Bajaj delivered the introductory remarks. He said the new 7.2-million-square-foot campus in Pune would be built around sustainability, environmentally friendly design, employee well-being and technology.
The campus will incorporate artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, energy and water conservation measures, as well as architectural elements showcasing Indian culture, Bajaj said.
