Patna, Aug 2026 : The Bihar government has launched a statewide door-to-door health screening campaign aimed at covering nearly six crore people aged 30 years and above, with a focus on early detection and treatment of serious and non-communicable diseases.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inaugurated the ‘Jaanch evam Upchar Chikitsa Aapke Dwar’ (Screening and Treatment at Your Doorstep) campaign on Wednesday and flagged off awareness chariots in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Health Minister Nishant Kumar.
The campaign will continue until November 30 and cover around 14,500 health centres across Bihar. Under the initiative, dedicated health teams will visit villages, panchayats and individual households to conduct screenings and identify people requiring medical intervention.
The screening programme will cover several major diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart disease, respiratory and lung disorders, fatty liver disease and tuberculosis. Individuals found to be suffering from any of these conditions will be provided medicines, medical advice and treatment. Those requiring specialised care will be referred to higher-level healthcare facilities.
The Chief Minister said the initiative would also strengthen Bihar’s digital healthcare system by creating individual health records for citizens and digitising them. Wherever possible, these records will be linked with ABHA IDs, enabling better tracking of patients, early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.
Awareness chariots will travel through districts and villages to educate residents about common diseases, preventive healthcare and the importance of timely medical check-ups.
The government has also launched a separate campaign to address anaemia among women and girls. According to data cited during the event, more than 63 per cent of women in Bihar suffer from anaemia. Around one crore women and girls are expected to be screened and provided treatment under the initiative.
Meanwhile, the state government is expanding healthcare services at district hospitals. The number of diseases that can be treated at the district level is being increased from 36 to 46, while ICU beds and surgical facilities are also being expanded. Choudhary said district hospitals are currently conducting more than 8,000 surgeries every month.
The Chief Minister said 700 nurses had been appointed before Raksha Bandhan and that further recruitment of doctors and nurses would be undertaken according to requirements.
Bihar is also planning language training for healthcare workers seeking employment abroad, including Japanese for those planning to work in Japan and French for those travelling to France.
Choudhary directed district magistrates to begin preparations for ‘Mission Kayakalp’, which is expected to be launched soon to improve infrastructure and facilities at hospitals and additional primary health centres, particularly in rural areas.
