Bloomberg Partnership to Play Key Role in Maharashtra’s Development, Says CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, October 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the partnership between the state government and Bloomberg will play an important role in the development of Mumbai and Maharashtra, describing the collaboration as transformative and historic.

Welcoming Bloomberg founder Mike Bloomberg to Mumbai, India’s financial, commercial and entertainment capital, Fadnavis expressed confidence that the partnership would provide fresh direction to the state’s development.

The Chief Minister met Mike Bloomberg at the St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai. Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, investment adviser Kaustubh Dhavse and prominent industry leaders were present on the occasion.

Fadnavis noted that Mumbai and New York share several common characteristics and said the collaboration with Bloomberg would help advance Maharashtra’s development agenda.

Bloomberg completes 30 years in India

The Chief Minister said Bloomberg had completed 30 years of operations in India, with Maharashtra playing a significant role in its journey.

He said the company’s Indian headquarters was located in Maharashtra, with offices in Mumbai and Pune. He also highlighted the contribution of Bloomberg’s Pune team, where specialists in research, development and engineering work on the development of Bloomberg Terminals.

Recalling his first meeting with Mike Bloomberg in 2014 and his visit to Bloomberg’s office in 2018, Fadnavis said the welcome he received and the discussions he had with Bloomberg had been valuable learning experiences.

The Chief Minister thanked Bloomberg for its support for initiatives undertaken in partnership with the Maharashtra government, particularly in road safety, health information systems, healthier cities and innovation in governance.

Several initiatives in these areas are being implemented in Mumbai, Pune and Nashik, he said, expressing confidence that the collaboration would further strengthen development efforts across the state.

Mumbai’s metro network to expand to 350 km

Highlighting Maharashtra’s infrastructure development, Fadnavis said Mumbai’s metro network, which previously extended to just 11 km, was being expanded to approximately 350 km.

Of this, around 100 km of metro routes have become operational, while another 70 km are planned to be commissioned by next year. The government aims to make the entire metro network operational by 2029–30, he said.

Fadnavis added that, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, public transport infrastructure was expanding across several Indian cities. Pune, too, was developing an extensive metro network.

He said encouraging the use of public transport in Tier-II cities could bring about positive changes in people's travel behaviour and improve urban mobility.

The Chief Minister thanked Mike Bloomberg and his entire team, saying their support was helping strengthen several development initiatives in Maharashtra.

Mike Bloomberg highlights commitment to India

Mike Bloomberg expressed satisfaction with the company’s 30-year business journey in India and acknowledged Mumbai’s significant role in its expansion.

He said Maharashtra was one of India's important economic states and recalled that when Bloomberg began operations in India, it started from a small shared workspace. Today, the company’s Indian headquarters is located in Mumbai.

Bloomberg said the company continued to invest in Mumbai and other parts of the country. More than 100 engineers were working in Pune, where the company was developing an engineering centre that it planned to expand further in the coming years.

He emphasised that Bloomberg’s commitment to India extended beyond business. For nearly two decades, the company had supported initiatives in public health, road safety, sanitation and clean energy.

Expressing satisfaction with the company's progress in India and Maharashtra, Bloomberg said it would continue working to develop products and initiatives that serve the needs of people in the country.
