Directs Effective Implementation of Innovations for Safe Motherhood and Healthy Infancy, Continuous Monitoring of High-Risk Pregnancies
Jaipur, September 2026 : Chief Secretary V. Srinivas on Saturday chaired a review meeting on the medical and healthcare arrangements in the district at the auditorium of Dr Sampurnanand Medical College in Jodhpur.
Reviewing the progress of programmes being implemented for safe motherhood, quality delivery services and healthy infancy, Srinivas directed officials to further strengthen effective monitoring of high-risk pregnancies, quality antenatal care and facilities such as kangaroo care for newborns.
The Chief Secretary emphasised the need for effective implementation of innovations related to maternal and child health, including the Prasav Sakhi initiative, and for adopting useful practices at other medical institutions as well. He directed officials to ensure that pregnant women receive timely counselling, necessary investigations and proper follow-up, while maintaining an effective system of continuous monitoring from the identification of high-risk pregnancies through treatment.
Directions to Strengthen Standard Protocols and Treatment Procedures at Umaid Hospital
In view of the heavy patient load at Umaid Hospital, the Chief Secretary reviewed the available medical resources and treatment arrangements. He directed officials to ensure strict adherence to prescribed standard medical protocols in operation theatres, regular monitoring of treatment procedures and further strengthening of arrangements from the perspective of patient safety.
Srinivas directed the departments of anaesthesiology, obstetrics and gynaecology to work with better coordination and make their functioning more effective. He also called for timely implementation of corrective measures, prompt medical intervention in serious and complicated cases, and a more streamlined and outcome-oriented treatment process.
Directions to Expand Caesarean Services at Satellite Hospitals
To strengthen the role of satellite hospitals in the district, the Chief Secretary directed officials to improve human resources and supporting medical services at healthcare institutions in Bilara, Bhopalgarh, Dhawa, Pipar City, Osian and Balesar.
He said that increasing the availability of medical facilities at the local level would enable patients to receive timely treatment while also reducing the burden on higher-level medical institutions.
He directed officials to take steps to operationalise Caesarean section services at these medical institutions in a phased manner, along with strengthening the necessary infrastructure and arrangements. He also called for adequate support and coordination at the state level to ensure the availability of required resources and facilities.
Directions to Improve Process Flow in Antenatal Care and Maternal Health Services
While reviewing antenatal care arrangements in the district, the Chief Secretary directed officials to make the process of providing pregnant women with necessary counselling and diagnostic services at prescribed intervals more effective.
He stressed the need to prioritise an integrated system for early identification of high-risk pregnancies, regular follow-up and treatment according to individual requirements.
Srinivas also directed officials to identify effective practices and innovations being followed at Umaid Hospital as useful best practices and facilitate their adoption at other medical institutions in accordance with local requirements.
Effective Monitoring of Round-the-Clock OT, HDU and ICU Services
The Chief Secretary reviewed the smooth functioning of medical services at Umaid Hospital despite its heavy patient load. He directed officials to ensure continuous monitoring and effective functioning of round-the-clock operation theatres, the High Dependency Unit (HDU) and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), particularly the life-saving medical services being provided to critically ill patients and newborns.
Describing Umaid Hospital as an important centre for maternal and neonatal healthcare services, Srinivas directed officials to ensure the most effective utilisation of available specialist services and resources and provide timely, quality treatment in critical cases.
He stressed the need to continuously advance ongoing improvements in medical services and process flow and to institutionalise effective practices and systems.
During the meeting, Dr B.S. Jodha, Principal of Dr Sampurnanand Medical College, made a presentation providing detailed information on the district's healthcare arrangements, treatment procedures, medical resources, health infrastructure and progress of various medical services.
Divisional Commissioner Kanhaiya Lal Swami, District Collector Alok Ranjan, Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Parishad Ashish Kumar Mishra, Dr B.S. Jodha, Principal of Dr Sampurnanand Medical College, along with concerned medical officers and doctors, were present at the meeting.
