CM Rekha Gupta meets office-bearers of various MCD committees, gives them the mantra for a better Delhi
Calls for collective efforts to make Delhi a truly developed capital in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji’s vision
New Delhi, Sept 2026 : Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has a crucial role to play in taking the national capital forward as a ‘developed Delhi’. The civic body will have to play an effective role in the city’s basic development, sanitation, waste disposal and environmental improvement, as well as in strengthening primary education and primary healthcare services. She said all civic body office-bearers should work collectively, in line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, to ensure that Delhi emerges as an outstanding example of development, cleanliness and better civic amenities before the country.
The Chief Minister expressed these views on Friday while meeting the newly appointed chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of the MCD’s special and ad hoc committees at the Chief Minister’s Janseva Sadan. She gave the civic leaders the mantra for building a better Delhi. The meeting was led by Mayor Pravesh Wahi on behalf of the MCD. Deputy Mayor Monika Pant and Leader of the House Jaibhagwan Yadav, among other office-bearers, were also present.
During the meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held detailed discussions with the civic body office-bearers on various issues related to Delhi’s development and public welfare. She called upon them to make sustained efforts to make the capital clean, beautiful, healthy and developed.
Garbage-free Delhi mission should be a priority
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stressed that making Delhi garbage-free should be among the MCD’s key priorities. She said the capital’s cleanliness and waste disposal system are directly linked to Delhi’s image. The city must move towards a system where waste is disposed of effectively, public spaces remain clean and citizens have access to a better environment.
The MCD will have to make effective and sustained efforts to make Delhi garbage-free so that the national capital develops a distinct and better image across the country. A clean Delhi is not merely a matter of sanitation; it is also a reflection of a better life, a healthy environment and a developed city. Highlighting the MCD’s important role in environmental management, she said the civic body must discharge its responsibilities effectively to improve the capital’s environment.
Special focus on primary education and healthcare
The Chief Minister called upon civic leaders to deliver better results in the field of primary education. She said providing children with quality primary education is a fundamental requirement for strengthening Delhi’s future. Continuous efforts should be made to further improve the education system in MCD schools and provide children with a good academic environment.
She also said the availability of better healthcare facilities at the local level is extremely important for the common people. The MCD will have to demonstrate effective work in the fields of medicine and public health so that people’s trust in civic body services is further strengthened.
MCD will not be allowed to face financial difficulties
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made it clear that the functioning of the MCD has a direct impact on the daily lives of Delhi’s citizens. It is therefore essential to develop a result-oriented working system in every area related to education, healthcare, cleanliness, the environment and basic amenities.
She assured the civic body office-bearers that the MCD would no longer have to face financial difficulties of any kind. She told them that available resources should be utilised better, with development and public service works given priority. The benefits of better coordination between the Centre and the Delhi Government through the double-engine government should reach the capital’s development. Freed from concerns over financial resources, the MCD should focus fully on its responsibilities and development works.
Resolve to build a developed Delhi in line with Prime Minister’s vision
The Chief Minister also placed before the civic leaders Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision for Delhi. She said everyone should work towards ensuring that the national capital moves forward towards becoming a truly ‘developed Delhi’. For this, every institution and public representative associated with Delhi’s development will have to discharge their responsibilities with full seriousness and dedication.
The chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of various MCD committees who met the Chief Minister included office-bearers of the Education Committee, Environment Management Services Committee, Medical and Public Health Committee, Community Services Committee, Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, Works Committee, Horticulture Committee, Assurances Committee, Licensing and Tehbazari Committee and Property Tax Committee, among others.
