New Delhi, August 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Monday distributed bicycles to Class 9 girl students under the ‘Vidya Vahini Yojana’ at the Assembly premises. On the occasion, 200 girl students from Zone 7 of the North district were provided bicycles. The initiative is aimed at making commuting to school easier for girl students while also supporting continuity in their education and promoting their confidence and self-reliance. The students who received the bicycles were visibly excited. They said the bicycles would make it easier for them to travel to and from school, save time and help them continue their studies with greater confidence.
Interacting with the students, CM Rekha Gupta congratulated them on receiving the bicycles. She said a bicycle is not merely a means of transport but also a way to support girls’ education and help them pursue their dreams. The government is committed to ensuring that distance from school or transport-related difficulties do not become an obstacle in any girl’s education.
She said the Delhi government is committed to making education more accessible and convenient for girls through the ‘Vidya Vahini Yojana’. She said around 1.40 lakh Class 9 girl students are being provided bicycles under the scheme this year. “Investment in girls’ education is an investment in the bright future of society,” she said. The government is continuously working to ensure that the girls of Delhi have access to education, modern facilities and equal opportunities to move forward.
Encouraging the students, CM Rekha Gupta urged them to use the facility to strengthen their education, set goals for themselves and move ahead with confidence. The Delhi government’s aim is to provide students with a better education along with a holistic and enabling environment so that every student can pursue their dreams without any hindrance.
Delhi Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood, on the occasion, said that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji, Delhi’s school education is moving towards historic change. He said the distribution of bicycles to talented girl students is not merely about providing a means of transport, but is also an important step towards helping them become self-reliant, overcome barriers and pursue their dreams. He said he was deeply grateful to the Chief Minister for her continued support and unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment. Through the ‘Vidya Vahini Yojana’, the government is ensuring that no girl student in Delhi is left behind in her educational journey.
During the Monsoon Session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, CM Smt. Rekha Gupta distributed bicycles to 200 Class 9 girls under the Vidya Vahini Yojana.
The initiative reflects the Delhi Government’s larger vision of removing everyday barriers to girls’ education, improving access to schools and enabling young students to pursue their studies with greater confidence and independence.
This year, 1.40 lakh Class 9 girls across Delhi will receive bicycles under the scheme, strengthening the Government’s commitment to education, mobility and empowerment for every daughter of Delhi.
