CM Yogi Pays Floral Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on 157th Birth Anniversary

Lucknow, Oct 2026 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary on Thursday and extended greetings to the people of the state on International Day of Non-Violence.

The Chief Minister offered flowers at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the General Post Office (GPO) in Lucknow. Schoolchildren presented musical performances featuring devotional songs and bhajans, including Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Wah Shakti Hamein Do Dayanidhe and Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye. Yogi Adityanath listened to the performances during the programme.

CM Yogi Extends Greetings on International Day of Non-Violence

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Chief Minister extended his greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh on International Day of Non-Violence.

In a post on his social media account on X, Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, recalling his message of truth and non-violence and his contribution to India’s freedom movement.

He said Gandhi had conveyed the message of freedom to the world through the principles of swadeshi and non-violence.

“On the sacred birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, who followed the path of truth and non-violence and conveyed the message of freedom to the entire world through swadeshi and non-violence, I offer my respectful salutations. Best wishes to the people of the state on International Day of Non-Violence,” the Chief Minister said.

Yogi Adityanath further said that Gandhi’s ideals, simplicity and thoughts continue to guide society in the efforts towards building a self-reliant and developed India.

Leaders Attend Floral Tribute Programme

Several political leaders and public representatives attended the floral tribute programme at the GPO.

Those present included Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan, Rajya Sabha MP Brijlal, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharakwal, Legislative Council members Dr Mahendra Singh, Mukesh Sharma, Lalji Prasad Nirmal and Ram Chandra Pradhan.

Other dignitaries present included Pawan Singh Chauhan, Dr Neeraj Bora, Rajeshwar Singh, Jai Devi and Amaresh Kumar.

State Women’s Commission Vice-Chairperson Aparna Yadav and Bharatiya Janata Party Lucknow Mahanagar president Anand Dwivedi also attended the programme.

The event marked Gandhi Jayanti with tributes to the Mahatma and highlighted the continuing relevance of his principles of truth, non-violence, simplicity and self-reliance.
