Mumbai, October 27, 2026: The Cabinet Infrastructure Committee has approved Mumbai Metro Line 12A, an 18.40-km corridor connecting Manpada–Katai Naka to Taloja via Kalyan Phata. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed that the corridor be completed within the next three-and-a-half years.

The meeting of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee was held in the Cabinet Hall at Mantralaya under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department Asim Kumar Gupta, and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee were present.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said Metro Line 12A would improve connectivity to industrial and logistics hubs while strengthening transport links between Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai. He directed the authorities to complete the corridor within three-and-a-half years.

He also instructed officials to accelerate ongoing metro projects across Maharashtra and ensure that they are completed within their stipulated timelines.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority had submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Metro Line 12A, connecting Manpada–Katai Naka to Taloja via Kalyan Phata, to the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee for approval.

Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee said the project was expected to reduce travel time by 40 to 50 per cent compared with road travel.

Key Features of the Project

The entire metro corridor will be elevated, with 12 stations proposed along the route. The project includes an integrated flyover comprising a 6.93-km, four-lane section and an 8.69-km, six-lane section.

The corridor is expected to carry approximately 4.74 lakh passengers daily.

Interchange facilities are proposed at Katai Naka, connecting Metro Line 12 with the Bullet Train link; between Katai Naka and Kalyan Phata, connecting with Metro Line 14; and at Amandoot, connecting with Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1. Feeder bus services are also proposed at all stations.

The project is expected to reduce travel time by 40 to 50 per cent compared with road journeys. Improved access to public transport and better integration between different modes of transport are expected to encourage commuters to reduce their dependence on private vehicles.

This is also expected to lower carbon dioxide emissions and reduce traffic congestion on national highways.

The project aims to achieve several objectives, including reducing travel time, easing road congestion, promoting environmentally friendly public transport and establishing an efficient transport network to support regional economic development.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority will implement the project. Approval was also granted to designate the authority as the Special Planning Authority for implementing the metro corridor and integrated flyover.

The committee further approved the transfer of identified government land within the project's influence area to the authority for project development and resource mobilisation.
