NEW DELHI, Nov 2026 : Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh hit back at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s allegations, calling Congress the BJP’s real B-team for repeatedly facilitating the formation of BJP governments across the country. Citing Congress MLAs’ defections in Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, Sanjay Singh said the party had been losing elections in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Gujarat for decades, long before AAP even existed. He urged Congress to introspect instead of targeting AAP, asserting that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s work for Punjab would secure the party another massive majority in 2027.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, “At a Congress rally in Punjab, the party’s National President Mallikarjun Kharge had claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party is the BJP’s B-team. However, the truth is that from east to west and north to south, the Congress has repeatedly facilitated the formation of BJP governments.”
Citing figures, Sanjay Singh said that in 2016, the people of Arunachal Pradesh voted Congress to power, but the entire Congress party and its MLAs defected to the BJP and helped it form the government. “In the same year, nine Congress MLAs in Uttarakhand joined the BJP and helped it form the government. In 2017, 13 Congress MLAs in Goa joined the BJP,” he noted.
He continued, “In 2019, 13 Congress MLAs joined the BJP and helped it form the government in Karnataka. In 2020, 22 Congress MLAs in Madhya Pradesh joined the BJP and helped it form the government. In 2022, once again, eight Congress MLAs defected to the BJP in Goa.”
Sanjay Singh further said that across the country, Congress and its MLAs keep defecting to the BJP and helping it form governments, and now they are questioning the AAP. “The AAP is a party whose tallest leaders, Arvind Kejriwal, former Education Minister Manish Sisodia and former Health Minister Satyendra Jain, went to jail while fighting the BJP. I, too, went to jail,” he added, and asked Congress to name four of its leaders who had gone to jail while fighting the BJP.
Sanjay Singh stated, “Congress has been losing elections in Uttar Pradesh for 37 years, Bihar for 36 years, West Bengal for 54 years, Tamil Nadu for 59 years, Madhya Pradesh for 23 years (excluding a government that lasted one-and-a-half years in between), Maharashtra for 12 years, Haryana for 12 years, Odisha for 26 years, Andhra Pradesh for 12 years, Assam for 11 years, Uttarakhand for 10 years, Goa for 14 years, Sikkim for 47 years, Tripura for 38 years, Manipur for 10 years and Arunachal Pradesh for 10 years. In Gujarat, Congress has been losing for 31 years. The AAP did not even exist then, so why were they losing?”
The AAP Rajya Sabha MP told Congress and its National President Mallikarjun Kharge to assess their shortcomings and introspect. “That Congress has committed the crime of strengthening the BJP and facilitating the formation of its governments across the country, yet it was questioning the AAP. The entire country is watching and understands that Congress is the BJP’s real B-team, the party that helps the BJP form governments,” he said.
Sanjay Singh concluded by asserting, “Making baseless and fact-free statements to divert attention will not work. The AAP government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has worked for the people of Punjab and that the party will form the government there again with a massive majority.”
