New Delhi, August 2026 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government has taken a significant step towards the transformation of urban public spaces through public-private partnership. In the presence of the Chief Minister, MoUs were signed on Monday between the Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) and two companies. The partnership aims to transform neglected or underutilised spaces under and around flyovers into clean, green, safe and useful public spaces for citizens. The initiative will focus simultaneously on cleanliness, greenery, beautification, safety, pedestrian movement and environmental awareness. Delhi PWD Minister Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh, senior officials of the concerned departments and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Stretch from Deepali to Mangolpuri Market to be transformed
As part of an initiative by Dixon Technologies and Vrikshit Foundation, neglected spaces along the 2.5-km stretch from Deepali to Mangolpuri Market beneath the flyover will be developed as clean, green and safe community spaces. The project will include fencing along the approximately 2.5-km stretch beneath the flyover. Environment-friendly mural paintings and artworks based on environmental themes and clean energy will be created on 61 flyover pillars, covering an area of around 5,100 square metres. Organised greenery will be developed using local plant species, grass, shrubs and flowering plants.
Green belt along Mathura Road and MP Road to be developed
As part of a CSR initiative, the Kanodia Group will undertake the development and long-term maintenance of around two acres of green belt along Mathura Road and MP Road. At present, issues such as garbage dumping, unauthorised slums, roadside encroachments and unplanned use of these areas are affecting greenery, cleanliness, safety and the overall appearance of the surroundings. The green belts will be developed through local plant species, organised landscaping and improved maintenance. The proposed development will include organised green spaces, flowering plants, shrubs, trees and plants, walkways, lighting and attractive public spaces. This will not only enhance the greenery and appearance of the area but also provide citizens with a better and more convenient environment.
Better public spaces to be made available
On the occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that building a clean, green and beautiful Delhi is a collective responsibility of the government, society and the private sector. The Delhi government is encouraging public-private partnerships through which neglected spaces in the city can be transformed into better, safer, attractive and environment-friendly public spaces for citizens. The goal of Delhi’s development is not only to create new infrastructure facilities but also to improve the quality of life of citizens by making better use of existing urban spaces. The transformation of spaces beneath flyovers and green belts along major roads is part of this approach.
The Chief Minister said these initiatives would improve the appearance and identity of Delhi’s major corridors, increase greenery, promote cleanliness and provide citizens with better public spaces. At the same time, CSR participation by the private sector will strengthen the long-term maintenance of these areas. The Delhi government will continue to take forward such efforts in the coming period with the participation of government institutions, the private sector and citizens.
Together, we will make Delhi beautiful and clean
Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh thanked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on the occasion and said that the Delhi government is continuously working to make Delhi clean and beautiful in line with the Chief Minister Ji’s vision. He said the Chief Minister had, from the beginning, directed that the areas around Delhi’s flyovers and along roads should be properly beautified and developed. He also thanked both partner organisations for coming forward and taking responsibility for the initiative, saying their participation would give the work further momentum.
He said the government would encourage every effort that contributes to making Delhi better, and such initiatives would be taken forward as a positive example of public participation. He expressed confidence that the partnership between the government and the private sector would continue to grow stronger and that, together, they would give fresh momentum to the resolve to make Delhi clean, beautiful and green.
