Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar Reviews Pune Growth Hub Development Plan

Comprehensive plan to be submitted to the Central Government by November-end; seeks ₹5,000 crore in funding for the first phase

Pune, October 2026 : Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar today reviewed the development plan for the ‘Pune Growth Hub’ initiative at the District Collector’s Office. The initiative aims to ensure the comprehensive development of the Pune Metropolitan Region and transform Pune into a world-class economic hub.

Former Chief Secretary and Chairman of the Sixth State Finance Commission Dr Nitin Kareer, Divisional Commissioner Sheetal Teli-Ugle, MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary, District Collector Jitendra Dudi and Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil were present at the meeting.

At the initiative of NITI Aayog, the Growth Hub programme is being implemented in Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam, with Pune also included in the initiative. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in August last year between the Maharashtra Government, NITI Aayog and the Pune International Centre for this purpose. A meeting of the coordination committee constituted to plan the initiative was held today.

The development plan is being prepared by taking into account growth opportunities across various sectors in the Pune Metropolitan Region, including industry, information technology, the automobile sector, education, aviation, healthcare, agriculture and research. The direction of development is being finalised after considering suggestions and proposals from all the concerned departments.

By the end of November, the comprehensive development plan for the Pune Growth Hub will be submitted to the Central Government through the Apex Committee chaired by the Chief Minister. A demand will be made for an allocation of ₹5,000 crore from the Central Government for the first phase of the project.

Significant economic investment is expected through this initiative over the next ten years, up to 2036. The government is working towards transforming Pune into a world-class economic hub by utilising this investment to develop infrastructure, industries and various sectors across the Pune Metropolitan Region, it was stated at the meeting.
