Mumbai, Sept 2026 : Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) to submit an immediate detailed report into complaints of flats being allotted to ineligible beneficiaries while eligible residents were allegedly denied homes in SRA projects in Jogeshwari and Goregaon.
Shinde also ordered the suspension of two SRA officials — the competent authority and an assistant registrar — in connection with the alleged allotment of homes to ineligible persons in the Oshiwara Village project. He further directed an inquiry into a case involving the non-transfer of a Permanent Transit Camp (PTC) building by the developer to the SRA.
The directions were issued during a review meeting chaired by Shinde on pending civic issues, redevelopment projects and infrastructure-related matters in the North West Lok Sabha constituency. MP Ravindra Waikar, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir, Additional Chief Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Asim Gupta, Principal Secretary Navin Sona, SRA Managing Director Mahendra Kalyankar, MHADA Managing Director Milind Borikar and senior officials from the Mumbai civic administration participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
Waikar raised complaints concerning SRA projects in Bhagat Singh Nagar 1, 2 and 3, Durganagar, Koyna Vasahat, Meghwadi, Sarvodaya Society and Oshiwara Village. Taking serious note of allegations that flats meant for eligible beneficiaries had instead been allotted to bogus or ineligible persons, Shinde directed the authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry and suspend officials found responsible.
He also instructed the SRA to review all projects where flats have already been allotted but complaints have been received and submit a comprehensive report.
The meeting also discussed two PTC buildings in the area that were expected to be handed over by developers to the SRA but were allegedly sold independently. Shinde directed the authorities to investigate the matter.
In another decision, Shinde approved the proposal to name a Metro Line 2B station connecting the east-west station as ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami. He directed that the proposal be forwarded to the Central Government for approval.
The Deputy Chief Minister also assured that the state government would provide the necessary funds for the comprehensive development of the historic Jogeshwari Caves through the Tourism Department.
Shinde directed the SRA to constitute a team of competent legal experts to effectively represent the authority in pending court cases. He also asked MHADA to assist in separating the 7/12 extract for land sought for the headquarters of Force One.
Regarding residents of Appa Pada in Aarey Colony, Shinde directed officials from the Mumbai civic administration, Forest Department and Tribal Development Commissionerate to visit the area and take steps to ensure residents receive basic civic amenities.
Meanwhile, flats are being allotted to residents affected by the Metro Line 6 project in Sarvodaya Nagar. As part of the process, Shinde handed over keys to six beneficiaries as a symbolic gesture during the meeting.
