Pune, August 2026 : Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar has directed all concerned government departments and agencies to work in coordination to address the long-pending issues in the Chakan region and ensure its overall development.
Reviewing various civic and infrastructure-related problems in Chakan and the progress of a high-level committee constituted for the area’s development, Pawar said the committee has prepared a roadmap and that the government would extend full cooperation to implement it.
The meeting was held at the Government Rest House in Pune in the presence of Khed-Alandi MLA Babaji Kale, Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, PMRDA Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhary, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey and Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam, among others.
Pawar said bringing all concerned agencies onto a common platform was a positive development. She said various issues were being studied in detail through the committee and action was being taken in phases.
100 Security Personnel to Be Deployed
Considering Chakan’s rapidly growing population, industrial expansion and increasing traffic, Pawar stressed the need to strengthen security arrangements in the area.
She said the process of deploying 100 security personnel has been initiated and steps are also being taken to establish new police stations wherever required.
Chakan is a major industrial hub that attracts entrepreneurs and citizens from across India and abroad. Pawar said the area therefore needs better cleanliness, security and infrastructure.
She expressed concern over the large quantities of garbage and plastic waste visible along roads leading into Chakan and said discussions had been held with the concerned agencies to address the issue immediately.
Waste Processing Project Planned
Pawar said discussions had also been held with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) regarding waste management. Steps are being taken to make land available for a waste-processing project, and work on taking the project forward is underway.
She acknowledged that infrastructure projects require time but said efforts were being made to resolve the waste-management issue at the earliest.
Potholes to Be Repaired by August 31
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the concerned agencies to repair potholes on roads in the Chakan area by August 31. Road repairs, traffic congestion points and traffic-management measures have been identified as priority areas.
Pawar also highlighted the parking problem in Chakan and directed officials to make effective use of available land to create parking facilities. She said roads, parking and traffic management must be addressed together to ensure smooth movement.
Strict Action Against Encroachments
Pawar said the issue of encroachments would be taken up on priority and made it clear that no one would be spared during enforcement action.
At the same time, she appealed to local residents, industrialists, organisations and public representatives to cooperate with the administration.
She said opposition or obstruction during anti-encroachment drives could delay the process and urged all stakeholders to support the administration in removing illegal encroachments.
Action Plan for Traffic Management
District Collector Jitendra Dudi briefed the meeting on the work being undertaken through the committee. He said an action plan had been prepared through coordination among various departments to address immediate and long-term traffic problems in the Pune-Chakan industrial belt.
He said instructions had been issued to complete repairs of potholes and road shoulders by August 31, with action proposed against agencies responsible for delays.
100 additional personnel of the Maharashtra Security Force will be deployed for traffic management from next week. Meetings involving the concerned departments will also be held every Friday to review progress.
A drive to remove road encroachments will begin from Friday, with plans to complete the exercise within a month. Parking areas in the MIDC region are expected to become operational within a week, allowing trucks currently parked along roads to be shifted to designated spaces.
Restrictions on heavy vehicles during peak hours will also be introduced, while industrial companies have been advised to consider changes in shift timings to reduce traffic congestion.
Dudi said a waste-processing project was being developed for 19 villages and the MIDC area, with immediate measures also planned to tackle plastic waste.
He added that pedestrian safety would receive greater attention, with walkways and safer roads being prioritised.
Police to Strengthen Infrastructure
Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey said the police administration had expanded infrastructure in view of rapid industrialisation, urbanisation and rising traffic in the region.
He said greater attention was being given to traffic congestion and infrastructure-related challenges. Joint meetings involving the district administration, police and industry department have been held to formulate short-, medium- and long-term solutions.
Road encroachments will be removed and widening will be undertaken wherever necessary to ease congestion. Choubey stressed that all departments must work together to improve traffic flow across the industrial belt.
During the meeting, representatives of industries, transport organisations and voluntary groups highlighted various problems faced in the region. Pawar heard their concerns and sought details from the concerned departments, assuring them of positive action to resolve the issues.
