Hyderabad, Nov 2026 : The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has sanctioned Rs 88.50 crore for the construction of ‘Atma Gaurava Bhavans’ for 38 Backward Class (BC) associations in Hyderabad.
Government Orders sanctioning funds for the community centres, intended to promote the social, cultural and educational advancement of BC communities, were issued on Thursday.
Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar handed over copies of the Government Orders to representatives of various caste associations. The initiative is part of the Congress government’s plan to establish community buildings for different castes across the state.
Prabhakar said the construction of the Atma Gaurava Bhavans was being expedited in accordance with the directions of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and instructions from Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.
He noted that although land had been allocated earlier, construction had been held up due to administrative and technical issues. These obstacles have now been resolved with the assistance of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
According to the minister, the allocated sites have been developed with layouts under a “ready-to-construct” approach, making them suitable for immediate construction. With the funds now sanctioned, he urged the respective associations to begin work without further delay.
Prabhakar said the government was committed to ensuring that the buildings were completed and made accessible to BC communities. The target is to finish the projects within one year, or within a timeframe suited to the specific requirements of each site.
He assured the associations that construction permissions would be facilitated through coordination between the Engineering Department and HMDA. A “single-window” clearance system would be used to prevent delays, while the BC Welfare Department would review progress every month and seek regular status reports.
The minister also dismissed reports that the government planned to reclaim plots allotted to BC caste associations. He said the land was an asset of the weaker sections and assured that the present government, like any other administration, would not take it back.
He emphasised that the community associations were responsible for completing construction within the stipulated period using the sanctioned funds. Representatives of associations failing to meet the timeline would be held accountable, and the government would take necessary steps to ensure completion.
Prabhakar also proposed allotting a five-acre plot in Hyderabad for a comprehensive ‘BC Bhavan’. The proposed facility would serve as a common venue for BC communities to organise birth anniversary commemorations, meetings and other social events.
The government said the initiative aims to provide dedicated spaces for community activities while supporting the broader social and educational development of Backward Class groups.
