Leakage Control and Regular Water Supply Must Remain Top Priorities, Says Assembly Speaker
Jaipur, Sept 2026 : Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani has directed the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to ensure adequate water supply in Ajmer city during the festive season. He stressed that leakage control, timely repairs and regular water supply with adequate pressure must be treated as top priorities.
Devnani chaired a meeting of senior PHED officials at the Circuit House on Sunday to review various departmental schemes and ongoing works. He reviewed the progress of a major drinking water project worth around Rs 270 crore, sanctioned under the state Budget, aimed at providing a permanent solution to drinking water problems in the Ajmer North Assembly constituency. He also reviewed works under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme and directed officials to accelerate their implementation and complete all projects within the stipulated timelines.
The Assembly Speaker also spoke over the telephone with senior officials in Jaipur and directed them to ensure early approval of proposals submitted under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.
Devnani directed officials to ensure that clean drinking water is supplied regularly to Ajmer city at 48-hour intervals and with adequate pressure. He called for effective monitoring of the water supply system and immediate action in areas facing pipeline leakages or technical problems.
He specifically directed officials to ensure regular water supply in Makadwali, Lohagal and Kazipura areas.
He also instructed officials to maintain regular water supply at the UIT Colony in Ward 75, where residents have been facing difficulties related to water storage. In areas such as Khatola Pole and Dhi Mandi, where complaints of contaminated water have been linked to old cemented pipelines, he called for permanent solutions.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of works being undertaken under the 2024-25 Budget, including laying a pipeline from the Nasirabad Pump House to Nausar Ghati/Kotra, construction of service reservoirs and the ongoing pumping system at Nasirabad.
Devnani directed officials to complete these works in a time-bound manner. He also called for expediting construction of service reservoirs with capacities of 35 ML at Lohagal, 30 ML at Kotra and 5 ML at Prithviraj Nagar.
The Assembly Speaker reviewed proposed and ongoing works under AMRUT 2.0 and directed officials to expedite several projects. These include construction of a new 5 MLD water treatment plant at Varun Sagar; a 700-KL elevated service reservoir under the Chhatri scheme; 500-KL elevated reservoirs at Panchsheel A Block and Gyan Vihar; a 500-KL clean water reservoir at Varun Sagar; and 300-KL elevated reservoirs at Karni Nagar and Kirti Nagar.
He directed officials to take prompt departmental action on proposals received for laying new pipelines to address drinking water problems in the constituency.
The meeting also reviewed works related to tubewells and handpumps in various areas. Devnani instructed officials to immediately repair non-functional handpumps.
He directed officials to expedite the installation of tubewells near Shri Shantishwar Mahadev Temple in Shantipura, Ward 73, and at Someshwar Udyan in Azad Nagar Kotra, Ward 1.
Progress on handpump and tubewell works under budget announcements and proposed projects was also reviewed. Devnani directed officials to undertake handpump-related works in Ward 2 Kotra Residential Scheme, near Narsingh Temple in Holidara, Ward 70, Ramdev Nagar in Ward 74, opposite Prem Prakash Ashram at Delhi Gate, Tejaji Chowk in Makadwali village and Swastik Nagar on Varun Sagar Road.
He also directed officials to expedite tubewell works near Khulkhulia Bhairav Temple in Ajaysar village, at Khajur Ka Bada in Ward 16 and at Varun Sagar Udyan.
Additional Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other concerned PHED officials attended the meeting.
