Aizawl, Sept 2026: The Mizoram Government on Saturday organised an important interaction with former Chief Secretaries of the state under the theme “Learning from the Past for a Resilient Future” at Aijal Club. Chief Minister Lalduhoma attended the programme as the chief guest.
Four former Chief Secretaries of Mizoram — M. Lalmanzuala, Vanhela Pachuau, Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and Dr Renu Sharma — participated in the event. The programme, organised under the leadership of the present Chief Secretary, Khilli Ram Meena, also featured messages from five former Chief Secretaries who could not attend: Lalkhama, F Pahnuna, Lalfak Zuala, Haukhum Hauzel and L. Tochhong.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Lalduhoma said the programme was not merely an occasion to honour former Chief Secretaries for their contributions and years of dedicated service to Mizoram. It was also intended to draw upon their experience and wisdom to inspire and guide officers currently serving the state.
He noted that the former Chief Secretaries had faced several difficult circumstances during their tenure. Although the challenges confronting the state may have changed over the years, the fundamental purpose of government service remains unchanged — serving the people.
Lalduhoma said wisdom, integrity, self-reliance and hard work should guide government employees in their efforts towards the development of the state and the welfare of its people. Good governance requires not only planning and diligence but also a deep sense of commitment and dedication to public service, he said.
The Chief Minister observed that Mizoram still had a long road ahead in its development journey. He expressed confidence that the state’s achievements in literacy, social unity and community cooperation would help it overcome challenges and realise its development goals across different sectors.
Lalduhoma also outlined several initiatives currently being implemented by the Mizoram Government, including the Handholding Scheme, Project Monitoring Committee, Resource Mobilisation Committee, e-Office, grievance redressal mechanisms and digital land administration. He urged the participants and government officials to give their best towards accelerating development and improving the living standards of the people.
Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena thanked the former Chief Secretaries for their participation and contributions to public service. He said the programme had been designed to enable younger and serving officers to gain fresh perspectives and motivation from the experiences, challenges and lessons of former senior administrators.
Meena expressed hope that the workshop would prove useful and urged all participants to listen with an open mind and carefully draw lessons that could contribute to Mizoram’s future development.
The programme was divided into two sessions. During the first session, M. Lalmanzuala, Vanhela Pachuau, Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and Dr Renu Sharma shared their experiences from their respective tenures as Chief Secretaries and offered guidance to serving officers. The session was followed by an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session.
In the second session, Home Secretary Vanlalmawia and Planning Secretary David Lalthantluanga spoke about ongoing initiatives in Mizoram and the functioning of governance mechanisms at both the state and district levels.
Principal Secretary Sudhir Kumar delivered the concluding remarks of the workshop, while DM&R Secretary Sushil Singh proposed the vote of thanks and formally brought the programme to a close.
