Goa Announces Rs 3,000 Annual LPG Assistance for Eligible Beneficiaries

Panaji, Sep 2026 : Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday announced that eligible beneficiaries under a state government scheme will receive Rs 3,000 annually to meet the cost of three LPG cylinders.

The financial assistance will be directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts from September 9. The scheme fulfils a promise made by Sawant during the 2022 Goa Assembly elections, when he had assured eligible households of three free LPG cylinders every year.

Application forms for the scheme will be available at panchayats and through MLAs from September 5. Applicants will be required to submit the completed form along with copies of their bank passbook, Aadhaar card and voter identity card.

Sawant said beneficiaries who complete the application process and submit all the required documents will receive the annual assistance of Rs 3,000 directly in their bank accounts.

Meanwhile, the Goa government has barred fresh contractual appointments across its departments and government bodies under the newly notified Goa (Contractual Employees Regularization in Service) Rules, 2026.

The new rules also provide a one-time opportunity for eligible contractual employees who have completed at least 10 years of continuous service to seek regularisation.

Under the provisions, government departments and bodies will not be permitted to make fresh contractual appointments, except in specific cases involving consultants, domain experts and personnel engaged for time-bound state or Central government schemes.

Employees appointed under these specified exceptions will not be eligible to claim regularisation in government service. Their contracts will automatically end once the assigned work or stipulated tenure is completed, and extensions or renewals will not be permitted under the rules.

If a requirement continues after the completion of an assignment or contractual tenure, the concerned department or government body will have to issue a fresh contract.

The measures come as part of the Goa government’s latest policy framework governing contractual employment, while the LPG assistance scheme seeks to provide financial support to eligible households for their annual cooking-gas requirements.
