Iran Says Diplomacy Only Way to End Conflict as Trump Predicts Quick War End

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran is ready for negotiations but warns of a stronger response if military confrontation resumes

Tehran, Oct 2026 : Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Sunday said there was no military or sanctions-based solution to the conflict with the United States, asserting that diplomacy remained the only viable path to ending hostilities.

Addressing ambassadors and representatives of countries and international organisations in Tehran, Araghchi said Iran believed a diplomatic process could help bring an end to what he described as aggression against the country.

“There is no military or sanctions-based solution. Only a diplomatic solution can work and can help bring an end to the aggression against Iran,” Araghchi said, according to local media reports.

The Foreign Minister expressed hope that Washington would choose what he called “wisdom and rationality” rather than pursue further military action. At the same time, he said Iran was better prepared than before to respond if the United States opted for a military course, semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported.

Araghchi said the Iranian delegation had held several meetings and interviews during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where Tehran presented a seven-day proposal aimed at resolving outstanding disputes and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Under the proposal, he said, the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened within seven days if the plan received agreement.

The Iranian Foreign Minister said Tehran had demonstrated its willingness at the UNGA to pursue diplomatic efforts to end the conflict while maintaining its stated commitment to self-defence.

However, he warned that Iran’s response would be stronger if its adversaries again chose military confrontation.

Araghchi’s remarks came amid continuing tensions and growing economic pressure on Iran, with both sides maintaining sharply different positions on how the conflict should be resolved.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said the conflict with Iran would end “very quickly” and predicted a sharp decline in global oil prices once hostilities were over.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in Texas and later during a visit to a Peterbilt Motors facility in Denton, Trump said Iran faced a choice over how the conflict would conclude.

“Iran will very soon be ending one way or the other,” Trump said.

Trump pointed to what he described as severe economic and military pressure on Tehran, referring to high inflation, financial difficulties and losses suffered by Iran’s military capabilities.

He said the conflict would end quickly and predicted that oil prices would “drop like a rock” once the fighting came to an end.

The contrasting statements underscore the deep divide between Tehran and Washington, with Iran stressing diplomacy while warning of retaliation and Trump portraying Iran as facing mounting pressure to bring the conflict to an end.
