Tehran, October 2026 : Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has said that the management of the Strait of Hormuz and shipping routes through the strategic waterway will change following the US-Israeli war against Iran, signalling a shift in regional security and maritime arrangements.
Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran on Sunday, Araghchi said that “fundamental and strategic” changes had taken place in West Asia and that the region must adapt to new realities, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
“We must accept that new realities have taken hold. The routes in the Strait of Hormuz will not be the same as they once were, and the strait’s management will also not be as it was in the past,” Araghchi said.
The Iranian foreign minister added that discussions on several issues had already taken place and that negotiations would continue.
Iran Calls for Regional Security Cooperation
Araghchi stressed that security in West Asia should be ensured by countries in the region rather than relying on foreign military forces. He argued that outside powers had entered the region to protect their own interests and Israel, adding that their continued presence would contribute to insecurity.
He also said Iran was prepared to cooperate with all regional countries to address security concerns.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global maritime passage connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. It serves as a major route for international oil and energy shipments, making any change in its administration or navigation arrangements significant for global energy markets and maritime trade.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Seeks Compensation
Separately, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called for serious efforts to safeguard the rights of the Iranian people and secure compensation for damage caused by US-Israeli attacks.
The issues were discussed during a meeting with Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, according to a statement published on the supreme leader’s website on Saturday.
The meeting also highlighted priorities for Iran’s judicial system, including promoting justice, protecting public rights, tackling corruption and its underlying causes, and ensuring that legal cases are handled promptly and accurately.
The statement further emphasised the timely enforcement of judicial rulings and the need for comprehensive and tangible reforms in the country’s judiciary.
Iran’s leadership also called for decisive action against crime and efforts to recover compensation for material and non-material losses allegedly resulting from the US-Israeli attacks.
The statements come amid continuing tensions in West Asia, with Tehran emphasising regional security cooperation, changes to Strait of Hormuz management and the pursuit of compensation for wartime damage.
