Announces New Campaign Against Drug Abuse
Rampur Maniharan, Saharanpur, Sept 2026 : Thousands of people gathered at the Gochar Agricultural Inter College ground on Wednesday for the “Swabhiman Rally” organised by the All India Gurjar Vidya Pracharini Sabha. The event was marked by the beats of drums, slogans of “Jai Kisan, Jai Swabhiman” and enthusiastic participation, turning the rally into a memorable occasion.
A particularly emotional moment came when Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal president Chaudhary Jayant Singh appeared on a public rally stage for the first time with his wife and daughter. Their presence added a personal touch to the gathering, with the crowd welcoming them with loud applause. Bijnor MP Chandan Chauhan, committee office-bearer Dharmendra Chaudhary, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Anil Kumar, Parliamentary Board chairman and former MP K.C. Tyagi, national general secretary Trilok Tyagi, national general secretary and former MP Malook Nagar, along with party office-bearers, elected representatives and a large number of local residents, were also present.
Jayant Singh began his address by expressing condolences over the recent tragedy in Nepal. He conveyed his sympathies to the families affected and said the entire country stood with Nepal during the difficult period.
He then made a significant announcement, saying that following former US President Bill Clinton, a plaque bearing his own name would also be installed at the All India Gurjar Vidya Pracharini institution. He said the construction would be funded through the MP Sports Development Fund. Singh added that even if the entire year's allocation had to be utilised for the project, it would be completed with grandeur, quality and due respect.
Turning his attention to political opponents, Jayant Singh said the fact that opposition parties were repeatedly taking the name of the Rashtriya Lok Dal showed that the party was moving in the right direction and doing good work. Taking a swipe at the opposition's PDA alliance, he said its definition keeps changing every day, but the “N” in NDA would never change.
Highlighting measures taken in the interests of farmers, Singh said sugarcane farmers had so far received payments amounting to Rs 3.25 lakh crore, which, he claimed, had strengthened the economic position of sugarcane growers in the state.
He also directly challenged Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, saying issues concerning farmers should be raised openly rather than indirectly. “If you have the courage, Akhilesh Yadav should openly demand an increase in sugarcane prices,” he said. Singh alleged that in the guise of raising the ethanol issue, the Samajwadi Party was insulting farmers, farming and the legacy of former Union minister Chaudhary Ajit Singh.
Jayant Singh called upon party workers and farmers to strengthen the farmer lobby so that farmers' concerns could reach policymakers more effectively. Taking another swipe at the opposition, he said it was more concerned about “rasgullas” than farmers.
Referring to the younger generation, Singh said young people should have opportunities to progress in every field. Sharing a lesson he had learned from a soldier, he urged young people to stay away from drugs.
He recalled that farmer leader Chaudhary Charan Singh had consistently spoken against social evils, with drug abuse being among the foremost concerns. Jayant Singh said drug addiction does not destroy only an individual's health but can damage society as a whole. He described the growing prevalence of substance abuse among young people as worrying and called for collective efforts to protect them.
Singh said the central government was continuously working through new initiatives and innovations to address the problem, but stressed that the menace could not be eliminated without public participation. He appealed to people to help anyone struggling with addiction and contact the toll-free helpline 14446 to contribute to building a drug-free society.
Concluding his speech in his familiar light-hearted style, Jayant Singh said, “After ABCD, now comes G for Ganna (sugarcane),” drawing loud cheers and applause from the gathering.
The rally maintained a festive atmosphere throughout and emerged as a memorable event in Rampur Maniharan in terms of its organisation, public participation and message.
