Chief Minister Hemant Soren calls upon banks to actively participate in the financial empowerment of poor, deprived and tribal communities, stresses expansion of banking services in rural areas

Employees to receive premium banking facilities, including accident insurance, health protection and loans at concessional interest rates

Ranchi: In the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Finance Department of the Jharkhand Government and Union Bank of India at the Jharkhand Secretariat (Project Building) in Ranchi.

The agreement aims to provide better banking services, financial security and various benefits to state government employees through a special salary package. Approximately 1.75 lakh government employees across the state are expected to benefit from this initiative.

Special focus on financial empowerment of tribal and rural communities

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that Jharkhand is a tribal-dominated state and, therefore, the government expects the banking sector to accord special priority to tribal communities and extend additional benefits to them.

He emphasised that banking facilities should not remain restricted to government employees alone but should also reach poor, backward, deprived and rural communities across the state.

The Chief Minister pointed out that tribal communities in Jharkhand have distinct social and economic circumstances. Collective efforts are required to strengthen the financial security of tribal families and improve their quality of life.

He also highlighted the significant role played by Jharkhand's tribal communities in the country's history. Several freedom fighters from the state, including Bhagwan Birsa Munda, fought against British rule and made invaluable contributions to India's freedom struggle and the fight for self-respect.

Keeping in view the interests of tribal and rural communities, Soren stressed the need for special initiatives to promote their financial empowerment.

Easier banking and credit facilities for youth and small entrepreneurs

The Chief Minister said the state government is implementing several schemes to make poor, needy and young people self-reliant. Through these initiatives, many young people are accessing loans and moving towards self-employment.

He urged banks to simplify and streamline their loan disbursement procedures so that young people in rural areas, small entrepreneurs and economically weaker sections can easily access financial assistance to start economic activities.

Soren emphasised the importance of strengthening public trust in the banking system. Banks should introduce facilities that enable ordinary citizens to connect easily with the banking network and benefit from its services.

He added that strengthening the financial security and economic condition of every citizen remains one of the state government's key priorities, and the government is continuously working towards this objective.

Positive initiative for the welfare of government employees

On the occasion, Chief Minister Hemant Soren appreciated Union Bank of India's initiative towards the welfare of state government employees.

He said the government wants the bank to expand its cooperation further and develop the initiative into a strong partnership in the coming years.

Expressing gratitude to Union Bank of India, the Chief Minister said the agreement would benefit approximately 1.75 lakh state government employees. He also expressed hope that the bank would gradually extend its services and support to the wider population of Jharkhand.

Multiple special benefits for employees under the agreement

Under the MoU, Jharkhand government employees maintaining salary accounts with Union Bank of India will receive several exclusive banking benefits.

These include:

  • Accidental death insurance: Insurance coverage in the event of accidental death.

  • Disability benefits: Financial assistance in cases of permanent or partial disability.

  • Emergency medical facilities: Access to emergency healthcare services, including air ambulance facilities.

  • Concessional loans: Personal loans, home loans and vehicle loans at preferential interest rates.

  • Banking facilities: Complimentary ATM cards and additional digital banking services.

The agreement is expected to strengthen the financial security of government employees while providing them access to a wider range of banking and insurance facilities.
