Pregnant women, children and elderly residents to be moved to safety on priority; 10 boats deployed as relief kits, food and essential medicines are delivered door-to-door.
Lucknow, Oct 2026 : Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directions, the Lucknow district administration has intensified relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas amid the rising water level of the Gomti River.
On Sunday, District Magistrate Vishakh G. and Joint Commissioner of Police Babloo Kumar inspected affected areas, including Barawan Kala, Saitha, Jehta, Mall Road and Faizullaganj, both on foot and by boat. The officials reviewed the arrangements and directed authorities to conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing, prioritising the safety of affected residents.
Priority Evacuation of Vulnerable Residents
During the inspection at Saitha village, the District Magistrate instructed the City Magistrate to ensure that pregnant women, children and elderly residents were immediately shifted to safer locations on priority.
Officials were also directed to arrange 10 boats without delay to transport affected residents to safe areas. The administration reviewed healthcare facilities at relief camps and instructed officials to ensure that essential medicines were available to those in need.
Relief Kits, Food and Animal Fodder Delivered
District Magistrate Vishakh G. Ayyar said teams of officials and staff had been working in the affected areas since morning. Relief kits were being delivered door-to-door with the help of boats.
The administration has also directed officials to provide food and essential relief materials to affected families. Adequate supplies of straw and fodder are being arranged for livestock to ensure that animals receive sufficient feed during the flooding.
The Health Department has been instructed to prepare adequate kits of essential medicines and ensure their distribution in affected localities.
Night Patrols and Additional Control Room
In Faizullaganj, the District Magistrate and Joint Commissioner of Police Babloo Kumar inspected flood-affected settlements by boat and interacted with residents to assess the relief arrangements and their immediate needs.
To strengthen security, police have been directed to increase night patrols in affected areas. An additional control room will also be established in Daud Nagar to ensure that residents’ complaints and requests for assistance are addressed promptly.
Officials have been instructed to continuously monitor the Gomti River’s water level and keep a close watch on vulnerable locations. They have also been asked to remain present on the ground and supervise relief and rescue operations to ensure a swift response to emerging situations.
