Lunglei, August 2026: Lunglei High Powered Committee (HPC) Vice Chairman and MLA V. Malsawmtluanga attended the 9th Tangmai Festival 2026, also known as Fanghma Kut, organised by the Young Paite Association (YPA) General Headquarters at the YPA GHQ Hall in Hiangtam, Lamka, Churachandpur, Manipur, on Saturday, August 8.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Malsawmtluanga emphasised the close bonds shared by the various Zo ethnic communities and called upon them to live together in harmony and unity. He said differences and disputes among the Zo communities could hinder development and adversely affect the future of younger generations. Expressing concern over such divisions, he appealed to all communities to work towards resolving differences and strengthening mutual understanding.
The HPC Vice Chairman also urged young people and children from the different Zo communities to remain mindful of their future and work towards building a peaceful and progressive society. He called upon elected representatives, including MLAs from the hill areas, and leaders of various organisations to continue working towards ensuring the safety, security and peaceful coexistence of Zo communities in Manipur.
The festival was organised under the theme “Unity Through Culture and Tradition”, highlighting the role of cultural traditions in bringing different communities together. Representatives of several organisations, including the Young Mizo Association, Hmar Youth Association, Kuki Khanglai Lompi and Paite Cultural Society, showcased their respective cultural traditions and heritage during the event.
The cultural programme also featured musical performances by Esther Hnamte and Ruatpuii from Mizoram, along with talented singers from the Paite Zai-Awi Pawl (PZP). The performances added colour and vibrancy to the festival and provided a platform for communities to celebrate their shared cultural heritage.
A major attraction of the festival was the traditional Fanghma food, which was prepared and served to visitors. Traditional food items were also made available for sale at affordable prices, allowing participants and visitors to experience the region’s culinary heritage.
The celebrations continued into the afternoon with a special concert, drawing together members of different communities and young people in an atmosphere of cultural exchange and togetherness.
The Tangmai Festival, through its emphasis on culture, tradition and community participation, sought to strengthen social bonds among the various Zo communities while encouraging younger generations to preserve their cultural heritage and promote peace and unity.
