Aizawl, Aug 2026: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), today attended the “10 Crore Addiction-Free Pledge Mega Campaign”, organised by Brahma Kumaris under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Mission SPANDAN at St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, Aizawl, as the chief guest. The Governor released a book titled "Happy", authored by Dr. Sachin Parab, MBBS, from the Brahma Kumaris Headquarters, Mount Abu, Rajasthan. The book presents a holistic approach to developing a positive and powerful inner self.
Addressing the gathering, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh described drug and substance addiction as a serious issue that concerns everyone. He emphasised that ensuring and leading an addiction-free society would make a tremendous difference. Noting that India has a large young demographic, he stressed the need to properly guide the youth so that they do not fall prey to drugs and substance addiction and so that the nation can have healthy and productive young citizens who will form the foundation of India’s future.
The Governor observed that Mizoram’s location along international borders has contributed to the high prevalence of drugs in the state. He further noted that Mizoram has one of the highest overall cancer incidence rates and ranks among the states with the highest HIV prevalence, underscoring the urgent need for intensified efforts. He expressed confidence that through awareness, determination and cooperation, the state can successfully overcome drug and substance abuse, cancer and HIV.
He urged students to remain steadfast in their resolve to stay free from drugs and to firmly say “No” whenever they face temptation. He encouraged them never to allow their bright future to be destroyed by drugs. Reminding the students of the hard work and high expectations of their parents and teachers, the Governor said: “We have very high hopes in you because of the bright future you hold. As the future of your families, society and the state rests heavily upon you, do not let them down.” He also told the students that by thoroughly understanding the harms of drugs and substance abuse, they can become important ambassadors who educate others, and called upon them to lead exemplary lives that can inspire as many people as possible. He further advised them to maintain physical and mental health through regular exercise and meditation in order to remain free from drugs and substances.
Brother Kuriyan M.S., Principal of St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, delivered the welcome address. Dr. Sachin Parab, MBBS, from the Brahma Kumaris Headquarters, Mount Abu, Rajasthan, then gave a talk on the theme “10 Crore Addiction-Free Pledge Mega Campaign.” Under his guidance, an Addiction-Free Pledge was taken, in which a large number of students pledged to stay free from addiction to tobacco, alcohol, drugs and mobile phones.
