Mizoram Horticulture Minister to Honour Farmer ZT Lalrithangi Recognised by FAO

Aizawl, October 2026: Mizoram’s Horticulture Department will organise a felicitation programme to honour ZT Lalrithangi, a successful woman farmer from Sangau village in Lawngtlai district, who has been recognised by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under its “100 Women Heroes in Agri-Food Systems and Rural Development” initiative.

Lalrithangi is scheduled to return to Mizoram from Rome, Italy, on October 18, 2026, following the international recognition. The Horticulture Department will organise the felicitation programme on October 19, led by Horticulture Minister C. Lalsawivunga.

Horticulture Director C.H. Lalmuanpuia will coordinate the programme, during which Lalrithangi will be presented with a token of appreciation in recognition of her achievement.

Lalrithangi began her strawberry cultivation venture in 2024 with around 1,000 saplings. Since then, she has expanded her cultivation to approximately 2.5 hectares, planting more than 10,000 strawberry plants.

Her achievement has brought recognition to Mizoram’s agricultural sector, highlighting the contribution of women farmers to rural development and agri-food systems.

Among the women farmers selected by the FAO from 131 countries worldwide, Lalrithangi is one of only two women from India to receive the recognition.

The felicitation programme is intended to acknowledge her achievement and celebrate her contribution to horticulture and agricultural development in Mizoram.
