Nana Patekar’s Sudden Exit Is Shocking: CM Devendra Fadnavis Pays Tribute

Mumbai, October 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the demise of veteran actor Nana Patekar, describing his sudden passing as shocking and saying that the film industry and social sector have suffered a major loss.

In his condolence message, Fadnavis said Patekar was a towering figure in Indian cinema who combined powerful acting with exceptional sensitivity. He said the actor’s contribution through the Naam Foundation had also demonstrated the importance of social responsibility beyond the world of cinema.

“Indian cinema has lost a powerful face of acting and sensitivity. The sudden exit of ‘Natsamrat’ Nana is shocking,” Fadnavis said in his tribute.

The Chief Minister said he shared a close bond with Patekar as a friend and well-wisher. He described the actor as a distinctive talent who brought the ruggedness of Maharashtra’s soil to his performances while also displaying deep sensitivity.

“Indian cinema received in Nana an actor rooted in the soil of Maharashtra, rugged yet equally sensitive,” Fadnavis said.

He noted that Patekar had made a lasting contribution to both Marathi and Hindi cinema and had created a remarkable body of work spanning several decades. According to Fadnavis, audiences particularly connected with the actor’s image as a patriotic and socially conscious personality.

Referring to Patekar’s journey from ‘Krantiveer’ to ‘Natsamrat’, Fadnavis said the actor created an unparalleled range of powerful and mature performances.

“The impressive and accomplished acting canvas he created from ‘Krantiveer’ to ‘Natsamrat’ has no parallel. His departure is therefore a major loss as an actor,” the Chief Minister said.

Fadnavis also recalled Patekar’s distinctive personality and his ability to leave a lasting impression wherever he went. He said the actor’s commanding presence would often dominate the atmosphere around him.

Patekar, he added, interacted with people in an informal yet authoritative manner, often speaking to them with the warmth of an elder and the guidance of a mentor. This quality, Fadnavis said, allowed people to communicate with him openly and freely.

The Chief Minister also recalled Patekar’s forthright and fearless nature, describing these qualities as an integral part of his personality.

Fadnavis said he had witnessed the actor’s sensitive side over the years, particularly through his involvement in social initiatives. He recalled that when the Maharashtra government launched the Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan, Patekar came forward to support the initiative.

Patekar and actor Makarand Anaspure subsequently established the Naam Foundation, through which they worked for farmers and people affected by drought.

Fadnavis said Patekar consistently remained at the forefront of efforts to support farmers and extend assistance during drought situations. He noted that even during the current drought-like conditions in parts of Maharashtra, Patekar would have continued to contribute had he been alive.

“But he has suddenly left us,” Fadnavis said.

Offering his heartfelt condolences, the Chief Minister said he shared the grief of the Patekar family and the actor’s countless admirers.

“I offer my heartfelt tribute to Nana Patekar. We stand with the Patekar family and Nana’s fans in this hour of grief,” Fadnavis said.
