Delhiites lit ‘Ek Diya Aashirwad Ka’ at Kartavya Path, outside Seva Teerth, is a beautiful expression of the affection, respect and trust for Hon’ble Prime Minister – Smt Rekha Gupta
New Delhi, September 2026 : On the occasion of the 76th birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji on 17 September, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) organised ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ program at Vijay Chowk, New Delhi as ‘Seva Diwas’. During the programme, 1.25 lakh earthen diyas were lit from Kartavya Path to Sewa Teerth with the participation of beneficiaries of Central Government Schemes, NDMC employees, students and teachers.
The Aashirwad Ka Diya event was attended by Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt Rekha Gupta, Union Minister of State and Delhi State BJP President, Shri Harsh Malhotra, Member of Parliament from New Delhi, Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Chairperson, Shri Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Vice Chairman, Shir Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Member of NDMC Council, Shri Dinesh Pratap Singh, Secretary NDMC, Shri Rahul Singh along with thousands of NDMC employees, students and teachers.
On the occasion, Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has been rendering continuous service to 140 crore citizens of the country. On the occasion of his birthday, all of us Indians can only express our gratitude for his services by extending our blessings to him – blessings that convey our wishes for his long life, good health and eternally energetic life.
She said that it is everyone’s wish that the Prime Minister remains healthy and continues to serve the nation in the same manner, leading India towards becoming a Viksit Bharat and continues to guide all of us in nation-building.
The Chief Minister further said that the manner in which Delhiites lit ‘Ek Diya Aashirwad Ka’ away from their homes today at Kartavya Path, outside Seva Teerth, is a beautiful expression of the affection, respect and trust that the people have for the Prime Minister. Expressing her heartfelt gratitude to the people of Delhi, she said that through their blessings, the citizens have not only conveyed their best wishes to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, but have also blessed a government that works continuously and a leadership that has served the nation tirelessly without pause.
The Chief Minister said that the entire nation bows to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji with utmost reverence. She expressed her sincere thanks to the people of Delhi for lighting the ‘Diya of Blessings’ from every household in Delhi.
Shri Harsh Malhotra said that this time the birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji holds special significance, as he has completed 25 years of service to the nation in his public life. On this special occasion, people across the country are lighting ‘Diya of Blessings’ to convey their good wishes and blessings to him. He said that this diya is a symbol of the affection, respect and gratitude of the countrymen towards the Prime Minister. Shri Malhotra said that he prays to the Almighty to bless the Prime Minister with long life, good health and energy for continuous service to the nation, so that he continues to lead the country towards the resolve of Viksit Bharat with the same dedication.
On this occasion, Member of Parliament, New Delhi, Ms. Bansuri Swaraj said that the birthday of the Hon’ble Prime Minister being celebrated today is significant in the sense that this year he is also completing 25 years of continuous service to the nation. He has dedicated his entire life to Maa Bharati. Today, citizens of the country and especially Delhiites have gathered at Vijay Chowk with ‘Diya of Blessings’ to pray for his healthy long life and she expressed gratitude to all. She also said that during the tenure of Hon’ble Modi Ji, the new Parliament, Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhavans that have been constructed around Vijay Chowk are not merely construction of buildings, but a step towards Viksit Bharat.
Chairman NDMC, Shri Manoj Kumar Dwivedi stated that on the occasion of Seva Diwas, lighting of 1.25 lakh diyas together at Vijay Chowk became a symbol of service, dedication and the spirit of nation-building. The glow of these lamps will further strengthen the resolve of service and inspire citizens to move towards building a Viksit Bharat.
Shri Manoj Kumar Dwivedi said that to light these diyas, NDMC officers, employees and other participants came together with a spirit of service. This collective effort is not merely an event, but a message of commitment towards duty, service and public welfare. Shri Dwivedi expressed his hope that with the inspiration drawn from this event, NDMC officers and employees will discharge their respective responsibilities with full dedication and energy and through collective efforts, will contribute towards making the NDMC area cleaner, greener, more beautiful, safer and more prosperous.
On this occasion, Vice Chairman NDMC, Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal said that, “Today, people have lit diyas for Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji with heartfelt emotions and good wishes. ‘Diya of Blessings’ is not merely a programme of lighting lamps, but a medium to express the feelings of those who have benefitted from various government schemes and facilities.” Shri Chahal said that the beneficiaries participating in the programme have their own stories. Some have got employment, some have benefitted from health facilities and medical cards, while many are being benefitted from various schemes of the Central Government. Every diya lit for them is a symbol of happiness, satisfaction, gratitude and good wishes.
Shri Chahal said that this occasion is also significant in the context of 25 years of Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s public life. He said that through traditional diyas, people got an opportunity to express their feelings and good wishes. Shri Chahal said that New Delhi, which was earlier known as ‘Lutyens’ Delhi’, has changed considerably in the last few years and is now being seen in a new form of modern development. He said that important projects like the new Parliament Building, Kartavya Path, Kartavya Bhavan, National War Memorial and Bharat Mandapam have given the capital a new identity and today New Delhi is known as the Narendra Modi Model. He said that along with these projects, many works related to modern public spaces, better facilities and urban development are being carried out in New Delhi.
