Prime Minister says 25 years of public trust and experience are the nation’s collective capital, urges people to work together for a developed and self-reliant India by 2047
New Delhi/Lucknow, October 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked 25 years in public life and governance by giving a new call for the country’s future — “Viksit Bharat, We Will Do It.” Addressing a ‘Seva Jyoti’ programme at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, Modi linked the milestone to the goals of building a developed India by 2047, making the country one of the world’s top three economies and achieving self-reliance.
“Viksit Bharat by 2047, we will do it. Top-three economy, we will do it. Atmanirbhar Bharat, we will do it,” Modi said.
He said the 25 years of public trust and experience he had accumulated were not his personal wealth but the collective capital of the nation. He thanked citizens and BJP workers, describing their trust and hard work as his greatest source of strength.
The event was also streamed live at Patel Park in Lucknow, where Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined virtually and listened to Modi’s address. BJP National President Nitin Nabin also addressed the gathering in New Delhi.
‘Never Thought This Milestone Would Come’
Recalling October 7, 2001, when he took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi said he had never imagined that his public journey would reach such a milestone. He expressed gratitude to citizens for repeatedly giving him opportunities to serve and paid tribute to India’s democracy and Constitution.
Modi said he continued to consider himself a student. He recalled how supporters had taught him to move forward, while critics had encouraged him to look within. He said challenges, including the Bhuj earthquake, the initial setbacks faced by the Chandrayaan programme and the Covid-19 pandemic, had provided important lessons.
‘Karma Is My Dharma’
Reflecting on his political journey, Modi said his 25 years in public life were not about personal glorification. Before entering electoral politics, he had worked in the organisation and among tribal communities.
“I have been a person who lived not for ambition, but for a mission,” he said, stressing that he had continued to fulfil whatever responsibilities were entrusted to him.
He said that when the nation is concerned, position, prestige and authority lose their importance. The measure of his journey, he said, should not be where he personally reached but where the country reached.
From Gujarat to a Larger National Mission
Recalling his early years as Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi said his guiding principle was that the development of Gujarat should contribute to the development of India. He acknowledged that he had limited experience in government and administration at the time, but relied on public participation and people’s strength.
He said that after becoming Prime Minister in 2014, his responsibilities expanded significantly. Modi pointed to changes in the economy, exports, manufacturing and the growing recognition of Indian products, saying the country’s capabilities and reforms are now discussed in a different context.
‘We Will Do It’ for 2047
Modi said the 25-year milestone should not merely be an occasion to recall past achievements but an opportunity to renew national commitments.
Referring to his earlier call for “Sabka Prayas”, he highlighted the goals of achieving a developed India by 2047, becoming one of the world’s top three economies and building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
He said the country’s message should be clear: “We will do it.”
On governance, Modi stressed that if a problem affects everyone, its solution should also be available to everyone. He said politics based on dividing society according to votes had been a major challenge and emphasised “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” as the foundation of good governance.
He linked good governance with saturation of welfare schemes, saying every eligible person should receive the benefits they are entitled to.
Nitin Nabin Hails Modi’s Leadership
BJP National President Nitin Nabin described Modi’s 25-year journey as one from public service to national service. He highlighted initiatives related to sanitation, Ujjwala, women’s empowerment, PM-Kisan, housing and Khelo India.
Nabin also referred to startups and unicorns as evidence of growing opportunities for young Indians and highlighted initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local and Make in India.
He described Modi as a key figure in shaping modern India and advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
At Patel Park in Lucknow, a song highlighting the Prime Minister’s development initiatives was also presented. Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, MPs Sanjay Seth and Brijlal, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal and other public representatives and party workers attended the programme.
Earlier, Yogi visited an exhibition titled ‘Jan Seva Se Desh Seva’, showcasing the implementation of Central government schemes in Uttar Pradesh, and also established a ‘Seva Jyoti’ as part of the celebrations.
