Pranavi Urs Creates History with Asian Games Golf Gold

Kasugi, Oct 2026 : Pranavi Urs created history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in stroke-play golf at the Asian Games, producing a composed final-round performance at the Kasugai Country Club East Course.

Pranavi finished the four-day competition with a total of 15-under 265 after carding an even-par 70 in the final round. Her victory marked a significant milestone for Indian women’s golf and capped an impressive individual campaign.

Pranavi also played an important role in India’s performance in the women’s team event, helping the side secure a silver medal with a combined score of 14-under 546 over four rounds. The medal was India’s first in the women’s team golf event at the Asian Games.

China’s Yin Ruoning and Singapore’s Shannon Tan shared the silver medal after finishing on 14-under par.

Pranavi began the final round with a three-stroke advantage over Tan and appeared firmly in control of the gold-medal race. However, the Indian faced a major setback on the third hole when she carded a triple bogey, causing her to slip to second place.

Rather than allowing the setback to affect her campaign, Pranavi mounted a determined comeback. She picked up birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes, steadily recovering ground and eventually regaining the lead.

She then negotiated the closing stretch with composure, finishing the 18th hole on even par to complete her four-round total of 15-under 265 and secure the gold medal.

Pranavi’s triumph came after she had entered the final day with a sizeable advantage. Her consistency across the earlier rounds had placed her in a strong position, although the Indian remained aware of the need to maintain her focus through the final 18 holes.

India also had Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar competing in the individual event. Aditi finished 14th overall after shooting a three-under 67 in the final round to end the tournament on two-over 282.

Diksha, meanwhile, carded a seven-over round on the final day and finished joint 23rd with an overall score of 12-over par.

The Indian women’s team had entered the final day with hopes of securing two medals, with Pranavi leading the individual standings and the team positioned to challenge for a podium finish.

The team eventually completed the competition with a 14-under 546 total, securing the silver medal and giving India its first Asian Games medal in the women’s team golf event.

The result also provided a contrasting outcome to Aditi’s campaign. She had entered the third day in first place in the individual competition but eventually slipped down the standings on the final day. Her experience highlighted the challenges of maintaining a lead through the closing round of a major multi-sport competition.

For Pranavi, however, the final day unfolded differently. Despite the early triple bogey, she regained her rhythm with three crucial birdies and held her nerve over the closing holes.

Her gold medal adds a landmark achievement to India’s Asian Games golf campaign, while the women’s team silver further underlined the country’s progress in the discipline.

Pranavi’s victory also places her name in the record books as the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games golf gold medal, following a final-round comeback that secured the title at Kasugai Country Club.
