New Delhi, October 2026 : President Droupadi Murmu on Monday appointed Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar as the new Governor of Tamil Nadu, while Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur will take over as Governor of Kerala, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique.
The reshuffle also includes the appointment of four former parliamentarians as Governors. Dushyant Gautam has been appointed Governor of Sikkim, Braj Mohan Ram will take charge in Odisha, Sudha Yadav has been appointed Governor of Karnataka, and Dhal Singh Bisen will become Governor of Uttarakhand.
Braj Mohan Ram will succeed Hari Babu Kambhampati in Odisha, while Dhal Singh Bisen will replace retired Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh in Uttarakhand. Sudha Yadav will succeed Thaawarchand Gehlot in Karnataka.
The appointments will take effect from the dates on which the appointees assume charge of their respective offices, the communique said.
Arlekar’s appointment in Tamil Nadu comes amid a history of disagreements between the state government and the Governor’s office. His posting is expected to bring continuity and administrative experience to the gubernatorial role.
The latest changes follow a major reshuffle of Governors and Lieutenant Governors undertaken by the President in March this year, covering several states and Union Territories, including Delhi, Ladakh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
