Telangana CM Sanctions ₹6 Lakh for Repatriation of Man Killed in Russia-Ukraine War

Revanth Reddy directs officials to bring back mortal remains of Jagtial resident; another Telangana man feared dead after allegedly being recruited for a civilian job in Russia

Hyderabad, October 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sanctioned financial assistance of ₹6 lakh to facilitate the repatriation of the mortal remains of Vavilala Sudarshan Goud, a resident of Hasanabad village in Jagtial district, who was killed in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Sudarshan Goud lost his life in a drone attack on September 1, 2026, after travelling to Ukraine approximately four months earlier in search of employment.

Expressing profound shock and grief over the incident, Revanth Reddy assured the bereaved family that the state government would stand by them during this difficult time. He directed officials to provide financial assistance and take the necessary steps to bring the deceased’s mortal remains back to India so that his family could perform the final rites with dignity and according to their traditions.

The matter was brought to the Chief Minister’s attention by Adluri Lakshman Kumar, Minister for the Development of Scheduled Castes, following an appeal from Sudarshan Goud’s wife, Vailala Bhargavi.

According to a note from the Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Bhargavi had submitted a representation during the Praja Vani public grievance programme, seeking ₹6 lakh in financial assistance to facilitate the repatriation of her husband’s mortal remains.

Responding to the request, the Chief Minister directed officials to sanction an ex-gratia payment of ₹6 lakh to Bhargavi from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Officials have issued the necessary orders and have also been instructed to coordinate arrangements for bringing the body back to the country.

Another Telangana Man Feared Dead

Meanwhile, another man from Telangana is feared to have died in the Russia-Ukraine war, raising fresh concerns about Indians who travel abroad after allegedly being promised civilian employment.

Mohammed Afzal Khan, 43, a resident of Banswada in Kamareddy district, travelled to Russia in February 2026 after allegedly being promised a civilian job in the oil industry. His family has now approached the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), seeking urgent intervention to establish his whereabouts and verify reports of his death.

Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan, who met Afzal Khan’s family members, said they had received a voice message claiming that Afzal had died while fighting for Russia near the Russia-Ukraine border.

The information has not yet been independently confirmed, and the family is awaiting an official clarification from the authorities.

Amjed Ullah Khan urged the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Moscow to contact the Russian authorities immediately, verify the circumstances surrounding Afzal Khan’s reported death and communicate the findings to his family.

He also requested that, if the death is confirmed, the necessary arrangements be made to repatriate Afzal Khan’s mortal remains to India.

“I request the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Moscow to urgently contact Russian authorities, verify the facts and inform the family. If confirmed, please facilitate the repatriation of his mortal remains. This family deserves answers, compassion and urgent diplomatic intervention,” Amjed Ullah Khan said.

Families Seek Government Intervention

The two cases have brought renewed attention to the plight of families in Telangana whose relatives travelled to Russia or Ukraine in search of employment and subsequently became casualties of the ongoing conflict.

While the Telangana government has sanctioned financial assistance and initiated steps to repatriate Sudarshan Goud’s mortal remains, Afzal Khan’s family is seeking confirmation of his fate and assistance from Indian diplomatic authorities.

The families are looking to the state government and the Ministry of External Affairs for timely intervention, clarity on the circumstances surrounding the deaths and support in bringing their loved ones home.
