Magnum’s Global Business Solutions Centre inaugurated in Wakad by Chief Minister
Pune, Sept 2026 : Pune is rapidly emerging as a major hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with more than 130 such centres already operational in the city. The number is expected to cross 800 within the next year, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, adding that the state government aims to make Pune the country’s leading destination for GCCs.
Fadnavis was speaking at the inauguration of Magnum Ice Cream Company’s Global Business Solutions Centre at EON West IT Park in Wakad. MLA Amit Gorkhe, MLA Shankar Jagtap, Principal Secretary of the Industries, Investment and Services Department Dr P. Anbalagan, Chief Minister’s Investment and Policy Adviser Kaustubh Dhavse, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi, Magnum Ice Cream Company Chief Financial Officer Abhijit Bhattacharya, entrepreneurs and company officials were present.
Fadnavis said Maharashtra has emerged as one of the country’s leading and preferred investment destinations for GCCs. The response from global companies to setting up business services centres in Pune reflects the city’s industry-friendly environment and availability of skilled manpower, he said.
The new Magnum centre is expected to generate more than 1,000 direct employment opportunities while also creating indirect jobs. The facility will use artificial intelligence, automation, logistics and other advanced technologies to strengthen the company’s global business processes. These technologies will help improve processes related to production, distribution and customer experience, the Chief Minister said.
He said collaboration between the government and industry can create a strong ecosystem that drives investment, employment generation and economic growth. The state government is committed to providing industries investing in Maharashtra with the necessary support and a conducive business environment, he added.
Fadnavis said the Global Business Solutions Centre in Pune, alongside Magnum’s regional headquarters in Mumbai, would provide a new direction to the company’s expansion in Maharashtra. Efforts are underway to strengthen infrastructure in Pune and make the city even more attractive for GCCs. The government is paying particular attention to resolving infrastructure-related issues affecting the IT sector in Pune, including Hinjewadi. The positive response from industry to the government’s efforts to create an investment-friendly environment reflects the success of these initiatives, he said.
Principal Secretary Dr P. Anbalagan said GCCs are not merely office facilities but important engines driving economic growth. India has established itself as a leading global GCC destination, with Maharashtra and particularly Pune playing an important role in this growth.
He said demand for around six million square feet of space for GCCs had been recorded in Pune over the past 15 months. During the last 18 months, 130 new or expanded GCC units have become operational across Maharashtra.
The state has set a target of establishing 400 GCC companies and more than 700 units in the coming years. Companies from more than 30 countries currently operate across 20 sectors in Pune, employing around 10,000 people in the sector. The state government is extending necessary support to ensure GCC companies make maximum use of various incentive schemes, Anbalagan said.
Chief Minister’s Investment and Policy Adviser Kaustubh Dhavse said the relationship between Magnum Ice Cream Company and the Maharashtra government was based on trust, credibility and mutual respect. He described the experience of Indian-origin executives leading the company globally, including their association with Philips and ASML, as inspiring. The Pune centre represents an important milestone in this long-term partnership, he said.
Magnum Ice Cream Company CFO Abhijit Bhattacharya said the company’s global business centre was established within a short period due to the Maharashtra government’s swift decision-making process. Pune was selected because of Maharashtra’s strong industrial ecosystem, excellent connectivity and responsive administration.
Bhattacharya appreciated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ vision of making Maharashtra a leading destination for global business centres. He also expressed the company’s interest in bringing global ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s to India and collaborating with Maharashtra on sustainable dairy practices.
