Punjab Cabinet Approves Ranjitgarh Development Authority Bill, 2026 for Planned and Sustainable Development

Chandigarh | October 2026: The Punjab Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, today approved the ‘Ranjitgarh Development Authority (RDA) Bill, 2026’. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Giving details, the Chief Minister’s Office said that the ‘Ranjitgarh Development Authority Bill, 2026’ will pave the way for the establishment of the ‘Ranjitgarh Development Authority’ (RDA) for the planned and sustainable development of the Ranjit Sagar Dam and Shahpur Kandi Dam areas.

The RDA will be established as a statutory body under the administrative control of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. It will be vested with the necessary administrative, financial and regulatory powers for integrated development, land management, implementation of projects and proper management of tourist destinations.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will be the Chairman of the Authority, while the Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs will serve as its Vice-Chairman. An Executive Committee headed by the Chief Secretary will oversee its day-to-day functioning and inter-departmental coordination.

Cabinet Approves Recruitment of Staff in CEO Punjab Office

The Cabinet also approved the creation of new posts of drivers in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab. These posts have been created by surrendering posts of peons from among 19 permanent posts and one permanent post of Muharrir.

The move aims to ensure smoother functioning of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.

Amendment to Punjab Nursing Education Service Rules, 2016 Approved

The Cabinet also approved an amendment to Appendix-B of the ‘Punjab Nursing Education Service Rules (Group B), 2016’ to facilitate the filling of tutor posts through promotion at Government Nursing Colleges in Patiala and Amritsar under the Department of Medical Education and Research.

These posts will be filled on a regular basis from among staff nurses and nursing sisters working under the control of the Director, Research and Medical Education, Punjab, who possess an M.Sc. (Nursing) qualification in the relevant field. Preference will be given to candidates having one year of teaching experience in nursing education.

Cabinet Approves Regularisation of Non-Teaching Staff in PICTES

The Cabinet also gave its approval for the regularisation of the services of non-teaching staff working on a contractual basis under the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES).

The employees whose services are being regularised will be granted the benefit of regularisation under the prescribed pay scales applicable to PICTES.
