Hyderabad, Sep 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday decided to drop Forest, Environment and Endowment Minister Konda Surekha from the state Council of Ministers with immediate effect, following the Congress high command’s action over alleged indiscipline within the party.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), a recommendation seeking Surekha’s removal from the Cabinet has already been sent to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla.
The Chief Minister also decided to rescind the appointment of Dr G. Chinna Reddy as Vice Chairman of the Telangana Planning Board with immediate effect. Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has been appointed as the new Vice Chairperson of the Planning Board.
In addition, Revanth Reddy approved the appointment of Nerella Sharada as Chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women. Former Rajya Sabha member G. Sudha Rani was also appointed Chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA).
The government has issued orders relating to the removal of Chinna Reddy from the Planning Board and the new appointments.
The decisions came after the Congress high command stepped in following concerns over indiscipline involving Surekha and Chinna Reddy. The Disciplinary Committee of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee had recommended strong action against both leaders.
Surekha had come under increasing scrutiny following public remarks made by her daughter, Sushmitha, against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The minister had objected to the show-cause notice issued to her in connection with the controversy, arguing that she could not be held responsible for the personal views expressed by her adult daughter.
The matter was discussed at the highest level of the Congress leadership. Party General Secretary K.C. Venugopal held a crucial meeting with senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on Thursday after a series of discussions with the Telangana leadership over the previous three days.
Revanth Reddy, Surekha and Telangana Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud had separately met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday. Revanth Reddy and Goud also held meetings with Venugopal, while Surekha met AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natrajan.
After her meeting with Natrajan, Surekha said she had conveyed everything she wanted to communicate to the party leadership.
The minister had also raised concerns over what she described as unequal treatment within the party. Stressing that she belongs to a Backward Class community, Surekha had questioned whether different standards were being applied to different leaders.
She pointed to allegations against ministers belonging to other social groups and asked, “What action will be taken against them?”
Surekha had also defended her record in government, claiming that her performance as a minister had been good and that there were no corruption allegations against her.
The latest Cabinet decision marks a significant development in the ongoing differences within the Telangana Congress. The removal of Surekha, along with the action against Chinna Reddy, indicates that the party leadership has opted for disciplinary measures as it seeks to maintain organisational cohesion and enforce greater discipline among its senior leaders.
The new appointments are also expected to facilitate continuity in key statutory and developmental bodies as the state government proceeds with its administrative agenda.
