Hyderabad, Sep 2026 : The University of London, UK, and Northeastern University, Boston, are set to establish offshore campuses in Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on Tuesday, describing the development as a major boost to the state's efforts to emerge as a global knowledge and education hub.
Taking to X, Revanth Reddy said the decision reflected growing international confidence in Hyderabad's potential as a destination for world-class education. He also disclosed that Harvard University and some of its constituent schools have expressed keen interest in offering select academic programmes and courses in Telangana.
The Chief Minister said the proposed collaborations could cover a wide range of initiatives, including academic courses, certification programmes, joint research, centres of excellence and specialised programmes for working professionals.
He expressed confidence that these partnerships would help Hyderabad emerge as a global educational powerhouse while creating greater opportunities for students and young professionals in Telangana.
“I wish to share my sense of pride and happiness with the people of Telangana, especially youth, that our vision to create a Global Knowledge Hub in Hyderabad has been endorsed, supported and will be partnered with the world’s greatest educational institutions,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Chief Minister said his primary focus on youth development would be through skills, sports and education, with the objective of preparing young people to compete successfully in an increasingly globalised environment.
Revanth Reddy recalled that his meetings with several leading British institutions during his recent visit had produced encouraging results. He specifically mentioned discussions with Oxford University, Cambridge University, SOAS in London, Imperial College London, London Business School and the London School of Economics.
“Our meetings with Oxford University, Cambridge University, SOAS (London), Imperial College, London Business School (LBS), London School of Economics have all yielded positive outcomes,” he said.
He added that discussions with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and several leading American universities had also been positive. According to the Chief Minister, these engagements could eventually enable students in Telangana to access programmes offered by globally renowned institutions without having to travel abroad.
Revanth Reddy returned to India from the UK on August 24 after the Centre denied permission for him to travel to the United States. However, members of the delegation accompanying him proceeded with the US visit.
The Chief Minister said the overseas engagements were aimed at building partnerships with leading universities and sports academies, besides attracting investments to Telangana.
He also said the delegation had used the visits to invite global investors to the Invest Telangana Summit, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on December 7, 8 and 9.
The proposed international university campuses and academic collaborations are expected to strengthen Hyderabad's position as a destination for higher education, research, innovation and professional development.
