Supplementary Budget Also Supports Hill Agriculture, Food Processing, Cooperatives and Fisheries
The Uttarakhand government has accorded special importance to farmers, agriculture-related activities and the rural economy in its supplementary budget for the financial year 2026-27.
An allocation of ₹1,100 crore has been proposed under the Annapurti Yojana for procuring paddy and wheat from farmers. The provision is among the major allocations in the supplementary budget.
Alongside this, the state government has proposed funds for various schemes aimed at promoting agriculture in hilly regions, processing agricultural produce and supporting farmers' livelihoods.
Given Uttarakhand's geographical conditions, rain-fed farming holds particular significance. The supplementary budget provides ₹70 crore for the Uttarakhand Climate-Resilient Rain-Fed Farming Project, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project aims to promote climate-resilient agricultural practices across the state.
The food processing sector has also received attention in the budget, with the objective of diversifying farmers' income sources and ensuring better utilisation of local agricultural produce. Approximately ₹35 crore has been earmarked for the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, which seeks to support small enterprises engaged in food processing.
To extend assistance to farmers through cooperatives, ₹20 crore has been proposed under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Cooperative Farmers' Welfare Scheme. An additional ₹9 crore has been proposed for the Farmers' Pension Scheme.
The supplementary budget also includes provisions for fisheries and beekeeping to promote alternative livelihood opportunities in hilly areas. Approximately ₹28 crore has been earmarked for the Trout Promotion Scheme, while ₹1 crore has been allocated for the new Beekeeping Policy. In addition, around ₹9 crore has been proposed for the construction of cow shelters.
Through these allocations, the state government aims to provide financial support for the procurement of agricultural produce while encouraging small agriculture-based enterprises, cooperative initiatives and alternative livelihood activities.
The provisions reflect an effort to strengthen the rural economy, support farmers' incomes and promote sustainable livelihood opportunities across Uttarakhand.
