Dehradun, October 2026: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved a proposal to increase the number of women constable posts in the district police from the existing 526 to 2,000, paving the way for 1,474 additional posts.
The move is aimed at providing better career opportunities for women constables. Under the proposal, the additional 1,474 posts will be accommodated by reallocating sanctioned posts from other cadres and branches.
The Personnel Department has agreed to the proposal on the condition that it does not entail any additional financial burden or increase the total number of sanctioned posts. It has also called for a separate proposal to restructure higher-level posts to accommodate the 1,210 supernumerary women constables currently in service and ensure that they have opportunities for promotion in the future.
Chief Minister Dhami has approved the proposal, which will facilitate an increase in the number of women constable posts in the district police. The decision will also pave the way for accommodating the existing supernumerary women constables and creating opportunities for their future career progression.
“Our government is continuously working to strengthen law and order in the state and encourage greater participation of women in the police force. Our objective is to provide women police personnel with better career opportunities while ensuring a secure and bright future for them,” Dhami said.
The decision is expected to support the state government's efforts to strengthen the district police force while improving career prospects for women personnel.
