Suggestions and recommendations received on the selection of tourism sub-circuits, classification of tourist destinations and infrastructure development

Mumbai, November 2026: As part of the Viksit Maharashtra–2047 vision, the state government is planning to develop 100 tourism sub-circuits with the objective of positioning Maharashtra as a global tourism destination.

In this regard, the Maharashtra Tourism Department organised a special meeting at the Directorate of Tourism office under the guidance of Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai. The meeting was convened to seek suggestions, feedback and recommendations from various stakeholders in the tourism sector before finalising the list of proposed tourism sub-circuits.

The meeting was held in the presence of Directorate of Tourism Director Vikas Pansare. Various stakeholders, tourism professionals, organisations and representatives from the sector participated both in person and through online platforms.

Detailed discussions were held on the selection of proposed tourism sub-circuits, geographical and thematic classification of tourist destinations, potential opportunities for tourism development, infrastructure requirements for tourists, connectivity, accessibility of tourist destinations and measures to promote tourism at the local level.

During the meeting, participating stakeholders shared important suggestions and recommendations regarding tourist destinations in their respective areas, distinctive tourism attractions, emerging opportunities and measures required to promote tourism development.

Based on these inputs, discussions were held on making the proposed tourism sub-circuits more inclusive, practical and tourist-friendly. The participants also discussed the effective utilisation of local tourism resources, improving connectivity between tourist destinations and promoting local employment and economic development.

Speaking on the occasion, Directorate of Tourism Director Vikas Pansare said, "Under the Viksit Maharashtra–2047 vision, tourism has been recognised as an important instrument of the state's economic and social development. Keeping in mind Maharashtra's diverse tourism attractions, including its geographical, cultural, historical, religious, natural and adventure tourism potential, the state plans to develop 100 tourism sub-circuits.

"Direct participation and experience of stakeholders in the tourism sector are extremely important for the successful implementation of this initiative. The Directorate of Tourism will consider the suggestions and recommendations received from stakeholders who participated in the meeting both physically and online, with the aim of making the final list of tourism sub-circuits more comprehensive, balanced and supportive of long-term tourism development."

The suggestions and recommendations received during the meeting will be compiled and examined before being considered for the preparation of the final blueprint for the proposed 100 tourism sub-circuits.

Through this initiative, the state aims to ensure planned development of tourist destinations, strengthen tourism infrastructure, enrich the overall experience of visitors and create new employment and self-employment opportunities for local communities.

The development of 100 tourism sub-circuits is expected to play an important role in making Maharashtra's tourism sector well-planned, sustainable and globally competitive as the state moves towards achieving the Viksit Maharashtra–2047 vision.
